I have my wife convinced that the easiest and probbly the best way for her to find a commfy gun for her to shoot is to find a range that rents. Problem is the closest "Big City" to us is Las Vegas (2 - 2 1/2) hours down the road. Does anyone know of any ranges there that have a good selection of rental guns?

Thanks Much
Steve

(sigh) Once again;
locally, The Gun Store is considered "testosterone city"; set-up primarily for the need-to-be-supervised tourist trade.......
A.S.S. is regarded as the anti-Christ of FFL's; having publicly opposed (media quotes) some aspects of 2AM (elimination of private sales, etc).
Try Discount Firearms, maybe; state-of-the-art range, and I'm sure Anna (co-owner) will make herself available for another female. Near the Strip, 1/2 mi W. on 3084 S. Highland Ave, big Winchester logo on building out front, 702 567-1158. Good luck.....

Discount is good, nice range and store, but hit and miss with the help. Some are real nice and others are not so helpful. None are experts in my opinion.

American shooter supply is not as nice, IMO, but I think has a larger selection of hand guns for rent. It is often crowded on Sundays.

Discount has good prices to buy as does Master Shooter Supply on Sahara for ordering a gun.

Where are you located in Souther Utah? Anywhere near duck creek?

Chad

Nice area. Close to cedar city and St. George, but not too close. You are right though, not a big city. We have a lot (land) in duck creek.

Be aware that some gun shops/ranges are not open on Sunday.

If possible, visit a few gun stores and try various guns for fit. If you find one that feels good you can see if anybody at your local gun club or PD has one that you can borrow for a range try out. Or you can advertise here to see if another THR member in your neighborhood has one that you'd like to try out.

sorry wasn't aware of local history
maybe try them out there and buy elsewhere then.

Las Vegas shooters are not shy about offering their opinions of our local ranges ;)

Luckily, we have several so if you can splurge $$$ a little, check out more than one place when you come out here. Discount and American Shooters are not too far from each other, and you should be able to rent anything you might want to try between the two.

I happen to like American Shooters. It's nowhere near as nice as a range as Discount, but I think the staff at A.S. is more friendly. Just my two cents -- YMMV.

When did "The Gun Store" move? IIRC it used to be right off the highway (West side of I-15) in an industrial park. Was a nice little shop with an in-door range that would rent you anything from a full auto MP5 to a silenced Ruger MKII. They also did cowboy action and custum work on Ruger BHs; ie. turn them into a vaquero before there even was a vaquero.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different one, but am pretty sure it was called the Gun Store. I lived (was stationed) there back in 89-92. I went to the Gun Store on Trop last time I visited, but it didn't look like the same store.

My last trip to American Shooter's Supply this week ended in disappointment. The new boss (whether shift boss, management boss, don't know) chewed me out for loosing two 10-round magazines of .22LR on their pistol range "faster than one round per second".

They've always had a "no rapid fire" rule for their rifle range, which I have no problem with, but insising on such a rule for the pistol range, with a .22LR on a 20-ish lane line with only two other people present is just ridiculous. After we were done, I'd asked to speak to the 'boss', ended up speaking to the same guy who doesn't like "rapid fire" .22LR, and confirmed that they are now enforcing their 1-shot-1-second rule on the pistol range. I'd pointed out that this was fairly recent change and that, being as all twenty of my shots were both on paper and in a comparatively small group, I felt that such a rule change would no longer allow me to justify frequenting their business. The reasoning given was that "others will also 'rapid fire' and shoot down my target wires" - so everyone is held responsible for the (potential) behavior of a few.

I no longer recommend American Shooter's Supply - will have to check out Discount Firearms' range. :)
