It seems most if not all LEO agencies require their people to pack semi-autos instead of revolvers. Do you know of any LE agency that still allows revolver carry?

I know that there are Albuquerque Police officers who still carry revolvers but they are in the minority. I attended the funeral of Jeff Russell (killed in a car accident) a couple of years ago and the Chief made mention of the fact that Jeff still carried a revolver.

NYPD, if you had it prior to 93 you are grandfathered. Most people switched, a few held out. Same thing for off duty as recent as '02. Bill

here's a few sightings...

1) 1+ year ago; Camp Hill, PA, small & quiet shop, a friend of the shop stops in to say hello and he has a Taurus .38 revo and someone asked him where he worked; some sort of federally contracted security officer in Harrisburg, PA; loaded with sjhp .38 +p

2) 1 + year ago; Camp Hill, PA, local hospital, prison guards escorting prisoner through hospital; S&W K or L frame stainless revolver; guessing loaded w/ .38 +p

3) a few summers ago while visiting parents; greater Wilkes-Barre, PA area, summer 'bazaar' festival at a local Catholic church, several local constables spotted, one with a blued wheelgun in a older style belt drop holster

they may not be 'police' but each functions in a law enforcement capacity in one fashion or another

rbtrout, cheap shot! Was it your intention to directly insult or was it a poor attempt at humor? Anyway, your Liberal colors are showing! Bill

pittsburgh pa. let you use revolvers or glocks. unless they changed their policy since 2000.

I've seen Federal Protective Service officers carrying revolvers recently.. I was kind of surprised by this one. The grips look to be the same as worn on Ruger GP-100's, but I could never get a good look at them, don't want to make them feel weird about me. I am happy to see a lot of them around though and since I'm a revolver competitor, I may one day ask with curiousity how they like them over semi's.

tbtrout:
One of my fellow officers went to FLETC last year to become our departments Firearms Instructor and he had some interesting info for us. It seems that there are several departments across the country who are planning to go back to the revolver for similar reasons. It appears the number of shots fired by police at anyone is bad press.

Cheap shot yourself, whitey/Bill.

rbtrout: I thought it was funny.
wcwhitey: You may need a sense of humor.

Frankly, NYPD could use some range time or so it seems. A lack of ability shouldn't be a reason for high cap mags.

1) bashing and fighting amongst one another...:barf: :banghead: :scrutiny:

2) there are .38 spl +p rounds nowadays that work great from 4" tubes; there are a few that did great a few decades ago and never went away; if more power is sought, then the .357 magnums come into their own

3) if a big bore round is needed, a S&W 625 stoked with 230 gr .45 acp hollowpoints makes for an effective sidearm; full moon clips enhace reloading capabilities;

4) I prefer revolvers to semiautos, but I have both types of platforms and I don't see either type going away anytime in the near future

I don't want to get into the debate for a number or reasons, but do me a favor and please leave out the Monday morning quarterbacking. I would hope that most here are intelligent enough to realize that there is more too it than what you read in your daily rag. That is all I have to say about that, Thanks!

There's still a pretty fair number of Chicago patrol officers carrying Smith 19s. I also see a Cook County Sheriff's officer with one at breakfast every Friday.
Haven't seen a Colt Official Police on the street in a while, though.

Cops w/ Wheelguns

I watch "COPS" when I can, and I see quite a few peace officers out there carrying a revolver. They SEEM to be out there, though not here in San DIego, CA.

More power to 'em!

I saw Ocean City (MD) PD officers patrolling the boardwalk carrying what appeared to be stainless 4" Ruger GP-100s when I visited in 2005.

I dont personaly know of any dept that Mandates revolvers anymore , but do know on most small dept's it is permissible, and even likely if you dont supply your own firearm . ( theyas an agency have had them since the earth was new and wont replace the " gimme " pistols so you might well wind up with a fine old smith n or k frame lol ) . IMHO its not about what is better , its about budget in small agencys . You supply your own gear and within reason you can carry almost anything , you dont and you will get what they bought years ago , and i speak years being from the 1950s to last year lol .

I am far from liberal, and my comment is better refered to as sarcasm. There are some extremely qualified police officers out there with their firearms. However knowing a few NYC cops as well as NJ cops, I know their training lacks. There is more time devoted to sensativity training then what to do if you do have to use your sidearm. Putting a revolver in their hand and limiting their ability to 6 instead of 15,17 or? They might concentrate on accuracy instead of spraying. Just an opinion, don't have a cow.

I am a Leo (July 30), and I love revolvers! I am not sure about Taurus, hoever...

'It is the age of Aquarius...'

Sorry...

tbtrout,

Just a suggestion...maybe a :) would have been better than a  in your post. It's difficult at times to understand one's tone making it possible to misread a post. Tone and facial expression is so much a part of language and unfortunately it is hard to do when typing. Just my opinion.

Hallo, Charles Blair ;)

Even the county mounties out here in the wild west are carrying semi-autos now, but the livestock inspector was by our place last year and he was carrying a revolver and two speed loaders in nice brown leather gear :)
