I was just in a local shop and was told by one of the folks in there that AR's were going to be banned 2/1. It was stated "it hadn't been made public yet".

Obviously I don't believe this was anything more than a sales tactic, I just wonder if anyone else has had similar methods employed with them.

Does the LGS know anything how the senate and house works?
Tell him if ARs' will not be banned, he owes you $5000 worth of firearms.

Yes, it's good to use a little common sense when hearing stories like this. A ban being issued before one is passed is a little premature. Not saying it won't happen - you just have to consider the source.

They can piggy back it onto the financial legislation. People paychecks are way light today, there will be an outcry to pass a tax bill, and im sure the left will stick this in with it.

I would never darken his door again. Not only was he being a self-serving jerk, he was insulting your intelligence as well.

When are people going to start doing their own research and stop listening to people who do nothing but BS with customers for a living, and occasionally sell a gun or two.

Unless your walking out is going to have an effect on the guy's pricing, why did you pass up the sale? I mean, seriously. Prices are high right now because there is a huge demand and a short supply. Saying that may have been a sales tactic, but the overall situation of there actually being a shortage during a period of high demand does not seem to be exaggerated.

The guy was probably quoting--without citing his source--the story that came out from the Boston Mayor saying that Biden promised a gun control measure in the first month of the year. Which would be before Feb.

Your LGS did not completely pull that date out of thin air. I'm sure it is based on Vice President Biden's guarantee that an AWB would be passed and become law by the end of January.

EDIT: Killian beat me to it.

I didn't beat you by much. :D

If you don't have the money to buy it, that's one thing. If you are holding out because you think prices are going to go down over the next few months, then I'm afraid many of you are going to be in for a massive surprise.

Regarding how Congress works, which was mentioned earlier. 233 Republicans. 200 Democrats in the House. 17 Republicans have to jump the party and agree to a ban. I already have found two. One from Utah and Peter King from NY. They only need 15 more in the House if all Democrats vote along the party line. There is a lot of dissatisfaction within the Republican Party right now for about a 1000 different reasons and I wouldn't want to bet on everyone "doing what they are told" to do. Wouldn't be a democracy if we could force each of these guys to vote with their party every time in any event. So yeah, there's cause to worry. You should be worried.

I wasn't even in the market for one today. I was checking out reloading supplies. It caught me off guard that the statement was made.

Has Feinstein's bill even been introduced yet? IF anything were to get passed, I can't see an outright ban on EBR's being upheld should that make it through. Heller could be the determining factor with 3 million + ARs in circulation, not to mention other SA rifles. That sounds like a commonly used firearm to me, and I would like to think the current makeup of the SCOTUS would agree. We should be vigilant and keep writing our Congresscritters, but the sky isn't falling. Yet.

When are people going to realize that the issue here isn't what party controls what? It's not a party thing, it's an overgrown, greedy government and a weak willed, apathetic majority population that is the problem.

It isn't Dems vs. Reps. It's not conservatives vs. liberals- It's lying, thieving, traitorous politicians vs. We The People.

Feinstein's bill hasn't been introduced, but they introduced a magazine ban yesterday in the House. Only took about an hour after they were sworn in. No magazines over ten rounds..and a bunch of other things I can't remember right now. Something about magical elves making society crime free or some such.

All the more reason to badger you congress critters and tell them your votes and money are going to the opposition in the next election if they pass any more restrictions.
None of them want to have to look for a real job.

if all Democrats vote along the party line.

I really don't think that is plausible. An issue with this much interest in their home states... there will be some Democrats who won't go along. "How many" is the $64 question.

Killian, which Utah rep is it you think will favor a ban?

It's even more literal than just party lines. In 2009, 60 some-odd Democrat reps sent a letter to the WH and AG saying they will not support any new legislation. This has changed very little.

the guy in your LGS is probably the same guy who sell body armour at my local gun shows.....every year the tell me "body armour is going to be federally banned soon! buy it while you can".....for the past 7 years.

this is from obamas pledge to 'take serious action on guns' by the end of this month. he didnt go into what that meant. no hints, no talking points, so i think this is premature, but i've been wrong before.

He's probably talking about Stewart. He has since clarified his stance. He said that the interview in the Tribune (I think) left out parts that were important for the context of his statement. I don't know him personally, but I have several fiends who do and they've said he's about as pro-RKBA as they come.

I don't even think Matheson would vote for anything new, but I haven't heard anything from him. That leaves Bishop and Chaffetz, both of which are strongly on our side.

As for the OP: I would be a rich man if I had a nickel every time I heard a stupid or uninformed statement from a gun-store employee/owner. At best he's talking about Biden's statement to the Boston mayor.

Im in New Market let me know which shop told you that, even though I have a very good idea after you said reloading supplies.

Also I can give you the name of a really great dealer if your willing to drive to Athens.
