Hello everyone! Im thinking about putting together a 300 bo AR. I have an old Marlin 94 that I love, and know the 300 is the same balistics of .357, and consider that a good thing. The question I have, does anyone make a lightweight barrel? I get the .308 bore will make the barrel heavier than a .224, but most of them I see are far fatter than AK/M1 barrels. So far the best I can find is this. http://www.shop.masdefense.com/16-3...EIGHT-MELONITE-NITRIDE-BARREL-1638LDBL-MN.htm, but would like it to be about 3 ounces lighter (or more), and don't like that they don't tell you where its made. Im putting an A2 site on it, so can't get a tapered barrel, and am not interested in going below 16". Anyone use something lighter? thank all.

I have that barrel. 1) it is not really light. 2) it would not run with the same loads my brothers voodoo tactical /Adams carbine gas barrel would run. Had to take some off the recoil spring g for function. Shoots OK though.

But I'd get this barrel over the mas barrel. https://www.natchezss.com/16in-carbine-300blk-med-contour-barrel.html. Lighter profile, 1:12 trust is better for supers, not so good for heavy subs. If you are set on that mas barrel though, id sell you mine for the cost of the Adams.

A true lightweight barrel will be profiled more like this one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/31...eight-contour-1-in-8-twist-16-stainless-steel I believe walk along has this barrel and likes it fine. Cost a lot more though.

Edit: I'm not sure that the barrel is the reason my gun wasn't cycling with the ammo my brother was using, might have been the bolt or the assembly of the gas port wasn't quite perfect. The gas port size on the mas defense was .120, and fit/finish looked good. And it is reasonably accurate. The barrel is not dimpled for gas block set screws. The ammo I was trying to get to run was some powder coated gas checked Lee 155 grn lead bullets, so there is certainly room for problems there, and my cycling problems were all just the gun short stroking. 3 coils off the buffer spring and it runs like a top.

Im liking that, and on sale now. I like the slower twist too, since I will be shooting almost always super. I looked at that stoner, but it wont take an A2 block. Thanks.

I like the Adams barrel. Not deal breakers, but some things to note: the barrel has a more gray than black appearance. And the logo is printed on a machined flat rather than just on the round barrel. And as I recall the barrel was stamped (and used to be advertised as) a voodoo innovations barrel. Voodoo is/was a part of Adams. That is my review on the Natchez site.

Faxon makes a 16" fluted barrel at 1.53 lbs.
do you know if they have that in an a2 compatible gas? They'er website is hard to use, thanks .......... edit: looks like it will, thanks, ive been looking for a while now, and coundnt find much, and that two better suggestion got any more?

Faxon barrels are extreme top quality and priced a bit above $150. I have a 300 with a 16" CMMG barrel and it is much lighter than my Rainier barreled rifle. In fact the 300 with the CMMG has a 13" rail and still lighter than many of my AR's in 223 (and i usually build very light). Ballistic arms is another good source and you can most likely have them install the front sight. Aero is what i normally use, them and Faxon, Aero's barrels are made by Ballistic Advantage. I think you are going to find something that weighs 26 oz or less that will satisfy you.

Thanks for posting this thread as I have put the 300BO on my short list for a hog gun and if ever able to set up a trust would rather it be supressed. BTW I will be hunting over bait at night really in BO mode.

It's .750 at the gas block.

Is this what you mean by A2 block? They can be had in .750 or .625

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/23...ock-with-bayonet-lug-ar-15-lr-308-steel-matte[ Im not too woried about diameter, I can work with that. Faxon has some barrels that the actual length of the .750 area is too short for both legs of an a2 site, though faxon pointed me to their longer options right here, but the Stoner seems to be stuck with a shorter version for a dedicated free float tube. Looks like it has to be .750x1.9 for an A2. I would like to put an A1 upper on it BTW, so the front site is important. Though getting a1 parts willl probably be another thread.

Double posting, this new lay out is a little different.

Decoy, the hog in the photo ate a 125 gr 300 Blackout supersonic....they do work!
Its on the bucket list and in the state on private or leased lands season is open 7-24x 365 days, and nights a year using any means A 300 BO surpressed would enable you to get rid of them in a more efficent manner as two or three at one time is not uncommon. Right now Im just wanting one. I think id like to try one out first given the opportunity of course. I think the lightest barrel would suit me well as It will be easier to carry.
