Screw-on or slip on. I might need both. I mostly need it to increase length of pull, but I like a quality piece that's durable and looks good. I will certainly need a screw-on to replace a plastic butt plate, but I could use as much as 1.25" to 1.5" more length.

Limbsavers are slightly thinner than the largest kickeez.
I've got one on my .375 and it adds about 1-1.25" I'd have to check to be sure.
The thickest decelerstors are about the same thickness as the limbsavers.

If your just looking for added lop, the pachmayer trap pads are really thick as well, tho not as squishy as the others.

What gun/stock are you trying to lengthen?

An old Mod. 70. The wood stops at 13.5" and it has a thin plastic plate.

I also have that CZ 527 at 13.5" with a pad on there. To the end of the wood is about 13" so this stock would need a thick pad and a spacer to reach my goal of ~14.75". I'll probably just keep it as-is until my kids grow into it. I have the At-One stock for that gun that fits them now and I can get an extension for it to fit me.

But I'm also interested in pads for rifles that would be new to me whether I replace the factory original pad or get a custom stock and need to specify a pad.

The kickeze and limbsavers seem to be squishier and absorb recoil better than the pachmayers but also hang on my clothes and collect lint. I vastly perfer the pachmayers. I like the grind to fit screw on ones.

I have a number of aftermarket pachmayrs and one limbsaver, I can’t tell much if any difference in recoil attenuation. I prefer pachmayr because you can get them in red and I like red pads on wood stocked rifles and shotguns.

The kickeez magnum pad, which I have on my . 375, should get u there with no spacer. List a 1 3/8" thick

I like 13.75-14" lop, and had to cut about 1/2" off the stock of my .375 with that pad.

As to actual recoil attenuation, I think the kickeez is better than anything I've used, but I got nothing to back that up besides a lack of bruise, and a bunch of grumbling.

the limbsavers work, but they kinda brake down over time. they get really sticky. i have a 1'' on my siamese mauser, i left it sitting in the closet for a few weeks the butt was on the carpet. it stuck like glue and had to cut the carpet to release it.

All the sorbathane based pads do from what I understand. kickeez are only really supposed to last a couple years from what I've been told, my old limbsavers melted in about that much time as well.
The decels don't melt which is an advantage, I had one on my 7mm for 15years before switching to the limbsavers. Flip side is I also reduced the guns weight and rebarr led it to .300. the limbsqvers made enough difference in recoil that 7.5lb gun was tolerable.

I’ve heard this is true from so many people I believe it without ever having used one.

I’ve also read that issue was fixed quite some time ago. Maybe it takes them longer to get sticky than it used to?

Could be, my kickeeze is about a year old now I think, and it SEEMS fine. I hadn't really thought about it till you mentioned it. Also now that I think about it, it doesn't stick to clothes nearly as bad as the older pads did.
My limbsavers, which were circa 2008-2010 would have gotten stickyish by now.
I switched back to decelerators just because I don't like fitting pads, so it's been a while between the squishy pads.

Oh ment to mention, store the things pad up if you can, one of my shotgun fanatic buddies mentioned that the pads will take set. I guess that throws good shotgunners off their game? I can't hit crap either way so I doubt I'd notice.
Again this maybe old info, it was a while ago we talked about it. He's actually the one that suggested the kickeez over the other options.

mine was so stuck to my carpet, i pulled the tack strip loose lol. i have seen them set in place. the thing with mine is, with real heavy recoil, being the pad is so soft. with super hot loads in the mauser you can feel the plastic baker, and it hurts. one day i will replace the pad.

Yeah that sounds like it's time for a new pad lol.

I haven't read the rest of the posts, but I've used Limbsaver... both slip-on and screw-on. Using the slip-on, just leave the original buttplate in place and you may well have most of the LOP you're after. If not, you may find it necessary to extend the stock, then screw-on to that. It probably wouldn't be the first time somebody did that.

Don’t store any recoil pad sitting on carpet, and you can avoid the accelerated denaturization of the pads.

Had my own short bus back in my school days

Thanks to Rh Factor ignorance my parents were told by the doctor that on the slim chance I survived I would be profoundly retarded (his words). Could be I’m proving those words prophetic more often than not. I survived the blood transfusion and I think my parents are still split on the pros and cons of the results. :D

I do own a Decelerator or two and at one time a Spenco slip-on but I guess the squishy SVLs provide me with a sense of security vs Pachmayr’s offering. For what I shoot there’s no true need for padding so much as length as I favor longer for most.

Mod 70 with standard Limbsaver.

Ruger “Compact” Predator with Limbsaver Airtech (not squishy).

I have replaced the pad on a synthetic 3006 tikka with the prescribed limsaver. The change cut recoil down a good bit, lop is still a tad short on that gun, as is the case on a ruger hawkeye. I purchased a black pachmeyer slip-on to increase the lop for both guns. It fits each very well, fixes the lop issue, and actually looks really nice on the ruger wood stock. My only problem with the slip-on....the rounded top shoulder of the butt is slick hard plastic which will not allow me to prop the gun in a corner barrel-up on a smooth slick surface (floor/counter)....the gun butt will slip out from under the gun as long as this slip-on pad is installed.

I like the Pachmayr's looks.
For me, I hate the new R3 from Remington.
Too squishy/sticky.
Liked the old pads they ran on magnum rifles and shotguns back in the day (vented).
