I work as an electrician and I can tell you red wirenuts also work great as improvised earplugs. Have yet to try them out at the range though.

"I imagine if you were a grunt you would rather have thousands of A 10 Warthogs than a hundred F22 Raptors."

Not to hijack too badly, but as an A-10 crew chief (yes they are still operational) who loves that airframe dearly, it is an abysmal air-to-air platform. We may be fighting underequipped rabbles right now, but procurement for new fighters can take upwards of 20 years- who's to say where we'll be then? And without the air supremacy that previous fighters guaranteed (or in Iraq and Afghanistan where it was basically handed to us), those A-10s would be sitting ducks, and quickly wiped out. Now the process and methods (read: shenanigans) of the actual F-22 procurement, that's another story...

I have a buddy that uses unspent .40s&w rounds as hearing protection business end facing toward brain. I try to tell him to use foam but he won't listen to anyone.

Renegade1alpha, God bless you and everyone who ever wore that uniform. Every time I see a Marine in dress blues it takes my breath away and restores my pride in this country.

For the record, I use BOTH foam ear plugs and ear muffs whilst shooting. That extra few dB of protection from adding a second set of earsight protectors makes a BIG difference to me.

EDIT: my sincere apologies for wasting bandwidth- I already mentioned this earlier. That red on my face is NOT sunburn.
