im from calgary and wanna get into long distance competitive shooting like 800-1000 yards ideally where could i go to start checkin this out?

I've shot a bunch of matches with those good folks north of the USA. Enjoyed every minute of it. Except when one of them shot a better score than me.

Look up F-class shooting.
Targets are as far out as 1000yds, shot from prone with bipods or bags iirc.
Different calibers allowed depending on the weight class of your rifle. Big scopes needed.

F-class is one of the more popular High Power shooting games these days, all over North America.

And actually originated in the Farquarson Class shoots in Canada.
Originally meant to keep us old codgers in the game so we don't have to strain our arthritis with a sling, coat, and glove; and squint our presbyopic eyes behind iron sights.
It is picking up a lot of casual shooters with their Internet Special Tackytickle Rifles.
