Same problems for me, more so due to fat fingers.
The best fit for me is really 1911 with a flat MSH, slim grips, and a short trigger. Medium trigger in the same configuration is on the edge of comfort.
M&Ps would also be worth a try. Both the fullsized and compact, with the small backstrap, are the best fitting double stacks I've tried. A bit long when the trigger is fully extended, but about as good as it gets after I take up the slack in the trigger. Reset is also pretty short, so my finger doesn't have to shift from the optimum position to reset the trigger. A Bowie Tactical short trigger job would take care of that.
