I'm trying to round out my collection and decided that I need a 2 shot derringer. I want a quality firearm that is fairly accurate at close range. I hear bond arms is the way to go, but have no idea. I also really don't know what would be a good caliber in these guns, so I need some pointers.

the bond arms are the best i have had two, the 45 colt /410 and 357/38 fun to play with and shoot pretty good!

Bond Arms makes a great product but they are heavy and expensive. If that's what you're looking for you won't find better. If you want something less expensive and lighter try Cobra. I bought a Cobra in .38 Special.

I've had my American Derringer Model 1 (45LC/.410) since 1990. Great little gun for what it was designed for. I shoot black powder 45LC cartridges in mine. Love the boom and smoke, and the BP tames the recoil. I shoot more .410(s) through mine than anything else. Triple .000 Buck is a good defensive load and field shot makes it a good snake gun on trips to the woods.

Its a novel close range firearm, that has its place in a collection. I will probably always keep mine. I would not want it for a primary defense weapon given a choice (effective range and accuracy). Seven to ten yards with the .45 LC and triple .000 Buck, and around five yards with field shot. But it will do the job.

I've got all 3 previously mentioned. Two of which are Bond Arms, and the Bond Arms are just really well built, and I think they are well worth the price.

I have a Bond, and it's great. All the different barrels is what sold me. I have a .45/.410 barrel on it, and want to get a .357 barrel for it.

Good Luck

I have three Bond Arms frames, one that came with the Snake Slayer IV barrel, one that came with the .45 ACP barrel, and one that came with the .45 Colt/2.5" .410 shotshell barrel. I have several other barrels, including the .22 LR, .327 Federal, and .357 Magnum. The .22 barrel is lots of fun and an easy way to smooth out the action. The trigger improves a lot after 500 rounds. I really like the guns for what they are. I remember what they are not -- namely fast into action.

For defense, one is better of with a J-frame, but the Bond derringer makes a good snake gun and a good SASS side-match gun.
