Looking for an interesting squirrel rifle

DM;

Well, "proper" is one of those mutable words that depends on viewpoint. I seem to recall that an example would be the Sunni and Shi'a sects of Islam. We of the CZ sect won't resort to the lengths those two use to attempt to resolve their differences, we'll just be amused and leave you to travel your own odd path.

Someone explained the CZ safety to me like this:

"When you cock a Winchester lever action, what do you do? You pull the hammer back. When you shoulder a CZ, you pull the safety back to fire. Same difference."

Thing is, EVERY Winchester lever works the same way, but NOT every CZ works the same way!

Some CZ safeties are "normal" and some are "azzbackwards"! Seems they can't make up their minds... BUT, I've made up MY mind, I want all my bolt gun safeties working the SAME way......forward for fire, back for safe!

Sure makes it nice to have that muscle memory down, when I'm hunting dangerous game!

There are a few extremely accurate handguns available in 22lr. My 9 inch single six comes to mind as does the mk series, especially my friends 10 inch with every volquartzen part that fits it. Other options would be a Buckmark or smith 22a. Walther p22...plenty of options. A handgun in the squirrel woods is quite interesting.
If we're going to talk handguns, my First Generation Colt Woodsman, made in 1938 fits right in. It has the 6 7/8" barrel and after-market micro rear sight and is so accurate it's eerie.

Maybe CZ'S are right and the others are wrong.:D
Exactly. :D

Among my guns there are 14 different types/positions/styles of safeties and I've never had an issue with any of them. I have various models of CZ bolt guns with safeties that work each way and never have to give it a thought, really don't understand what the big deal is about.... YMMV, I suppose.

After reading all of the input here, I think I am probably leaning toward getting a Marlin 39A. I like the idea of the rifle being a repeater, accurate, scopeable, and fun.

My Son in law is a Ruger 10/22 freak. He swapped a match barrel, polymer stock, and bought a 3x9 scope and shoots "shamrocks" at 50 yards. He can break clay pigeons (4.25") at 100 yards every time:D
He sold the barrel and stock online and bought the scope.
No squirrel under 75 yards is safe.

I would also consider the Henry lever actions. The standard model has an 18" barrel and there is also a carbine with 16" and an Frontier Model with 20" octagon barrel. They are reasonably priced, well made, accurate, and a blast to shoot. Easily scoped and they have the best warranty in the world - all Henry rifles are warranted forever, always fixed for free, and the factory pays shipping both ways.
