Looting and Race

It's often comforting to know that others share your views, especially when those views are particularly controversial.

I've made a certain observation about the lawlessness in New Orleans. It's a pretty obvious observation, but it's not one that is socially acceptible to discuss. Thus, I've been wondering if I'm alone in this observation, while at the same time I'm reluctant to discuss it with others.

Today I came accross two columns whose authors had the courage to say what I didn't. They can be found here and here.

Has anyone else observed the same thing? It's seems both reasonable and obvious to me, yet nobody else has brought it up. Do y'all think the columns are wrong or inapropriate? Is it worthy of discussion despite being the most extreme form of political incorrectness?

We often discuss SHTF and self defence scenarious here. These discussions never involve the race of the agressors from which we might need to defend ourselves. And of course it doesn't really matter once the bullets start flying. But in a demographic sense, wouldn't it pay to consider your location and surroundings in regard to the views expressed by the columnists cited above?

(Please forgive me for being so inderect. I should prolly just come out and say it. Maybe I'm too concerned about offending someone. Or maybe it's just that social conditioning so hard to overcome...)

It's been dicussed here several times in among the other threads on looting etc. It's an observation of actual fact, yes; yet it's still not fair to use that fact as an excuse for undue discrimination, since that is unfair to the GOOD folks who are within the race/ethnicity in question.

Do you think that might have anything to do with the fact that most of the population is black? Should I be surprised that mostly white people riot at European “football” matches?

Would you kindly direct me to those threads? A quick bit of searching doesn't turn them up for me.

The other members appear to have dismissed my thoughts without any consideration. I'd like to hear others' thouhts, but it seems my gut instict was right. This isn't the place for a genuine discussion on race and crime.

If I could close and delete my own thread I would. I apologize for starting it.

Tell you what, if you can hold up a printout of a DNA sequencing gel from a black person and point out the crime gene to me, I'll admit that your observed "connection" between looting and race isn't simply a flawed assumption that correlation equals causation in what is really a rather embarrassing attempt to drag racial politics into what may turn out to be the greatest natural catastrophe the United States has ever dealt with.

Tying racial politics into Katrina makes you no better than Jesse Jackson.
