First off, Let me thank all for the great post,So much Knowlege out here. Well heres my problem. I have a 1911 and always had the firing pin hitting low on the primmer, I have been thru 2 barrels, and always had the same low hits, It has never bothered anything, Good lockup, thou i whould think it to much lockup, so do I worry about this? or just let it go. Wonder if anyone else has this happen, the 1911 is a colt for whats it worth.

Odd, the firing pin channel is milled into the slide, for it to be low there would have to be some sort of milling error or miss fit.
Can you post a picture of the firing pin hole on the slide? And one of a fire round.

Don't forget that on a 1911 type pistol, the barrel moves up and down to lock/unlock. There can be several reasons for a low firing pin strike, like a long link, or a machining error in the top of the slide as well as, obviously, an out of spec firing pin channel.

What make of gun is it? Is it an assembled gun or the product of a reputable maker? Usually, what you describe is not a big concern as long as everything else works OK and there is no excessive wear on the barrel or slide locking lugs or on the frame where the barrel seats after unlocking.

Hello. Jim The 1911 is a Colt, It is about 20+ yrs old, and i am sure thru many hands, There is hardly any wear in the slide, and I have tryed it without the link, and same hit , same place, Not on the edge, But not center, the gun is a shooter, always been good to me, Just bothers me at reload time, that the hits are, low, This is NOT a 2" grouper, High end weapon, Just a plinker,
How far off center? More than the radius of the firing mark, or less?
Is the mark nice and round, or does it have a little tail like a tadpole?
If the hits are pretty darn close to center, and there's no tadpole tail, you're in good shape. If it's way off, the firing pin drags, or the primers start backing out, you've got a problem.

EEP! That's a long way off center. It looks to me like it's just close enough to center to get ignition. Any farther outboard and you're onto the edge of the primer cup.
It wouldn't happen to have a long link to "improve" lockup, would it? Firing pin is good and straight?

How do you know the firing pin is hitting low and not high on the primer?
Not that it matters (I don't think) but I'm curious how it was determined.
Do you orient the cartridge in certain way in the gun to make sure?

45 Shooter, yes, I marked a few rounds, with a scripe, made and x from center and marked the top,
hand fed it, with out the extractor in place of course.
