I recently picked up a Range Officer Champion 9mm and have had a hard time locating the correct mags for it. I'm new to the 1911 platform(my first one) and trying to figure out which mag will fit and which won't is confusing.

Also considering changing the sights to adjustable probably with tritium and have found that not all sights will fit it. It will just be a target toy for the range as I carry a Glock and don't want to change the muscle memory and forget the safety.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheaper than dirt and midway have them. They have factory mags and other brands in different finishes and round counts.

So pretty much any 9mm officer sized mag will work? Is there any that are better rhan others, or any to avoid?

Thanks so far guys.

The Range Officer CHAMPION has a full size frame and is configured similar to a Commander. It takes full length 1911 mags, you can find them in 9 and 10rd versions, IIRC Springfield uses 9rd Metalform mags from the factory . Metal form makes a good quality mag, I have a bunch. Personally I prefer Chip McCormick mags, I use them for carry and competition, they've never let me down. http://www.chipmccormickmags.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=19003

No, the Officers size magazine will not fit in the Range Officer Champion because it's too short and won't lock in. Instead, it works in the Range Officer Compact which has a shorter grip. Full size magazines for the Colt Government Model and Colt Commander fit the RO Champion (and fit and lock in the Compact but stick out because they are longer).

Since you have a 9mm you'd want the full size magazines for a 9mm Government Model/Commander.

The Springfield/Metalform mags WC145 mentions have a very good reputation. They have a spacer at the front of the tube (remember the 9mm round is shorter than the .45ACP round and the mags need a spacer). I believe Rob Leatham was involved in the design of those mags.

Here they are at Brownell's http://www.brownells.com/magazines/...gfield-style-9rd-9mm-magazines-prod20448.aspx

The late Todd Green ran a 9mm 1911 endurance test and ended up preferring Wilson ETM mags.

Wilson ETMs worked great in my S&W 1911 9mm Pro Series but they don't drop free from my Colt.

We have a lot of guys who shoot 9mm 1911s at our local IDPA matches.

The ones who seem to have the fewest problems are using either Tripp Research or Dawson Precision mags.

Hilton Yam recently changed over to shooting a 9mm 1911 due to issues with his joints. His recommendation was the 9mm magazines from Tripp Research

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. Any help with the sights, I prefer adjustable especially for a range gun, and I know they aren't standard either.

Most adjustable sights have a different sight cut than those for fixed sights. Take a look at the sight cut on the regular RO and compare it to the gun you have.

I'm not that familiar with Springfield's line-up, but it looks like the RO Champion uses a Novak cut. You could try Novak (their website is a mess right now, it's been under construction for a few months, but you can call them) and I think STI and Dawson may have an adjustable for that sight cut. I'm not sure about tritium adjustables, they typically don't go together, but somebody may offer them.
