Man shoots self in leg at gun show

Not sure what the hassle is about. Gun safety is gun safety is gun safety. Doesn't matter where you are or how much or little you handle your gun. Follow the %$#$@ rules.

As for carry in gun shows I blame the suits. Liability insurance has got to be off the charts expensive, and would be prohibitively so if the promoter allowed loaded firearms on the premises.

And as another pointed out with the Arizona gun show incident, the stakes are very high. And the higher the stakes, the stricter and more careful we must be. Any ND at a show can have serious repercussions, maybe even to the point of closing down a show series or new anti-gun legislation. Uh oh... hope no antis are reading this.

As stated months ago on a similar 'thread', I carried my Yugo Mauser into a small Memphis flea/gun show
(on Winchester), and entering from the flea market side in the same bldg., no staffer waited at that entrance.

A guy who collected the entrance fee twenty feet away was paid the cash -But- nobody signaled me to have it checked, or put a plastic strap on it.

How could everybody running that tiny show have assumed that my gun was checked twice as it was put into, and picked up from the car trunk in the show's parking lot, even though this was the case? The staff at the main entrance saw the rifle on my shoulder, but did nothing.
Who checks the sellers who set up Fri./Sat. nights at the 'Real' Memphis/Southaven/Jackson area gun shows?

Let's face it -- we see what incredibly stupid things people do with 3,000-pound weapons every day...

.
3000 pound weapons that require licenses to operate as well as registration. Lets stay away from there please.

Understood...But actually, my point would be that despite all the testing, and registering, and licensing up the wazoo -- some people who did/do all those things will still drive drunk, drive while texting, drive while applying make-up, drive while shaving, etc.

In other words, responsible people will be responsible, and irresponsible people will be irresponsible. Beyond a certain point, you just can't legislate competence or character.

The hypocrisy of the American Gunshow. "Buy here and defend yer second amendment rights!" "Buy this here card and give it to those demon business owners who don't let you carry in their store!" Oh, and by the way.... no loaded firearms allowed because you can't be trusted.

Accidents happen. I'm sure he made one or more critical mistakes with his gun-handling, but every time one has to load and unload, it's another opportunity for error. An object at rest tends to stay at rest.

Rant//

I could not agree more.

I also get twisted knickers over the NRA not allowing "humanoid" targets for non-LEOs, but publishing self-defense stories every month.

I love gun shows! I go to every one I can in Wichita, KS. Haven't read or heard of a ND yet. I've observed MANY people in the shows, and I understand why they don't want loaded firemarms present, some people are just ignorant of proper firearm handling (reminds me of my ex wife, who coincidentally has her CCW also, but no gun).

I guess I akin it to going hunting with a group of guys and one of your buddies has brought someone new with them. I tend to stay closer to that person so I can keep a closer eye on them, for my own safety. I'm always aware of where everyone has there muzzle pointed, and I don't have a problem pointing it out if its pointing near someone.

Again, it did not happen at the gunshow but outside in a parking lot. No further cracking down on gun shows could have prevented this as it happened outside.
