Marlin 25N

I've been wanting to add a bolt action .22lr with a scope for accuracy practice and fun shooting. I hooked into an excellent condition Marlin 25N with a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 variable power scope for $150 delivered. I saw some targets that were shot with this setup and 40g Fed. Auto Match and was impressed. What little I could find on the 25N is all good, basically exceptional accuracy and reliability in an inexpensive no frills package.
Any reason I shouldn't jump on this deal?

I'll bite
As long as it is in reasonable condition you really cant go wrong. A .22 caliber Crickett kids rifle costs about that without a scope and no guarantee of accuracy. If it's what you've been looking for jump on it. For 150.00 if you dont like it resale shouldnt be very difficult.

there is a nice one with a scope on Guns International listed for 150.00 i had one years ago..actually one of the kids used it a lot...decent little gun

I bought a new 925 several years ago - nice rifle for the money and Marlin even upgraded the stock for me!

If the condition of the rifle is good sounds like your deal is pretty good. Plus you know it shoots well with the Federal.

The Marlin 25N was the best inexpensive bolt 22LR I'd ever owned. With an el-cheapo Tasco 3-9x40 scope, it was a tack driver at 50 yards - same ragged bullet hole, over and over... Take the usual look at it - sloppiness with the bolt, trigger, bore - but I seriously don't think you can go wrong with it.

Thanks I'm picking up and shooting it Wednesday.
I know the owner but have never seen the rifle in person, but pics look great. I know its well taken care of. This 25N was used as the owners small bore comp rifle until he got serious with a CZ, since which it has just been sitting.
I want it for cheap practice and will see it back in action

The 25N was my first gun, 11 years ago. I paid more for it then than you would now. I still have mine and it's still one of my favorites to shoot. Gets more range time than the rest of my rifles combined.

N = New

I think the 25 & 25N use different mags. The 25 was called the Glenfield Model 25, whereas it was just the Model 25N in later years.

I've shot a couple of 25Ns and they were always tackdrivers.

My first gun, somewhere around 22 years ago or so, was a 25N. Technically at that age it was mom's gun, but she bought it for me to take care of personally and learn the full responsibility that went along with being fully in charge of it. I wish I still had it, but as it turned out I wasn't quite ready for the responsibility at that age and after a few years I let it fall into a terrible and rusty disrepair.

Anyway, seeing as it was my first gun, I didn't actually realize at the time just how excellent of a firearm it really was. Various .22lr rifles later have come and gone in all that time, but I still have a great fondness for the extremely good accuracy and reliability of that particular rifle.
