I just got my FID card awhile ago and from a lot of research have decided on the Marlin 795 over the Ruger 10/22 with the rotary mag, but here's the catch: I can't find out definitively if the 795 can take a mag with more than 10 rds. That's important b/c in Massachusetts (the Communist Commonwealth), you cannot buy or possess large capacity (anything with a mag over 10 rds. or that can be modified to take over 10 rds.) unless you have a Class A Large capactiy Licence to Carry (LTC), which you have to be 21 to apply for. I read on another site that a guy said that the 15 rd. mag from his Marlin 70P fit his 795. I'm not looking to break the law but rather to make sure I don't break it. Haven't got much of anywhere checking with the local police. The short version is, can someone tell me absolutely whether the 795 can take a plus 10 rd. mag or not?

It sounds like they are saying you can't use hicaps or mags that can be converted into hicaps, not the rifle itself. The 15 round mags you are talking about are made by national magazine and Marlin doesn't make mags that hold more than ten rounds. By what you are thinking the ruger 10/22 would be illegal too because there are after market mags that hold more than 10 rounds. Mark

Welcome to THR!

Slight diversion, but how do you like your 795? I heard local stores here have them on sale for $100 or so, and I've thought about picking one up.

the hc mags will work in a 795, there are also some aftermarket mags, that are 15 and 25 rounders; they can be a bit moody, and you may have to mess with the feed lips a bit, but they work as well. A guy out of Arizona, called Hard To
Find, mags and clips, sells the aftermarket ones. I would just look for some of the origional hc mags for the 70 and papoose, and use those.

sg42: 795's are sick awesome, and you can get them new, right now, from Academy for 100 bucks, unbelievable really!!!! I will be jumping on one tommorrow. What they are is the mod 60 , with a synth stock, and is mag fed, some people consider them, the best of both worlds for the 60; a rugged stock that can take a beating and never warp, and fast reloading with the mags.

You will never see this price again , new , for a rifle this good, reliable, and accurate. I suggest if you can, to buy as many as possible at this price, just for an investment, because these are normally 150 bucks or more , new , right now!!!! I have seen them as high as 200 new, at gunshops and gunshows. I may have to buy 3 myself.

Yeah I heard about the Academy deal on RFC.

It's an obvious sweet deal. I was thinking about screwing on a Williams FP-GR I have laying around, buying a few extra mags, and making a trip to an Appleseed shoot.

But then we have all this stock market nonsense on the news, and I have a 39A I am still breaking in...
