I had seen them.

I think it's good that Marlin is putting out different barrel lengths. Can't say that they interest me much though.

Was really bummed this weekend when I saw a limited run of 16.25in stainless rifles with laminated stocks in .357 Why don't they make them in that length all the time!?!?!? A pistol round doesn't need much length.

Sorry, I digress. Yes, I think it's great that Marlin is "thinking outside of the box" more!

I would have preferred that they do a 24" with a full length mag tube and get the extra rounds for it, similar to the Winchester Legacy rifles.

I just bought a 336C last month because it was shorter (20") than my current hunting rifle. I almost went with the spikehorn @ 16", but decided that was too short and the 20" would be fine. I was also dissapointed to find out they cancelled the spikehorn since it seemed so popular to cut down the 336 for a truck gun. I was actually hoping they would intorduce it with a full length stock/short barrel combo, but I guess that isn't going to happen.
Finally got to shoot mine for the first time yesterday. Real fun rifle!

Great, now all they need is a stainless .357 version without a barrel band - a regular production model, unlike the Davidson's special limited edition which costs $600 +

They've been hearing this for years, I don't know what they're waiting on.

I thought the whole point of the fancy new ammo was that you wouldn't need new guns to use it.
You don't, the point is that you have a longer barrel to optimize for the round. Kinda like 16" vs. 24" match rifles, same ammo but different ballistics.

Get Marlin 1894C to go with .357 Revolver?

I'm thinking of getting a Marlin 1894C to complement my S&W 686P 5".

Would be used for SHTF, target and plinking.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Plinking, yes. SHTF situation, no. I wouldn't go for anything less than a mag fed rifle for that kind of situation.

Funny, people seem OK with shotguns for SHTF.

You could do far worse than an 1894(C) for SHTF, although really you should be thinking about a quick-reloading rifle/carbine rather than any tube-fed.

When I win Lotto I'll probably buy an M1A. Until then I'll make-do with my CMP Service Grade M1 Garand.

A Mossberg 590 is in my near future (I shoot longarms lefty and like top tang safeties--that's why I'm considering the Winchester even though the Marlin gets much better reviews).

With the handguns, handgun caliber carbines, M1 and Mossberg I think I'll be pretty well set (until I can get that M1A; I'm not a fan of .223 caliber so I'm not going to plunck down $$$ for an AR or XM-15 type rifle).

Perpster,
For what it's worth, I have a M1 Garand and the M1A. The M1 Garand goes out on shooting dates with me more than the M1A does! Something about that classic gun draws my attention more than the M1A.

Tough call. Probably my wife and kids and run like hell.
Other than that, maybe the AR due to the ability to carry more ammo in the same space, availability of ammo, lighter rifle, shorter (mines got a 16" barrel)
Between the Garand and the M1A, the M1A. Again, due to ammo availability and it is mag fed.
I was in a SHTF scenerio in '00 and again in '04. It wasn't pretty, but it had to be done. I grabbed my voter registeration card and headed down to my local voting booth.........:D

Wow, talk about bringing back an old thread to life! From 2006! Well, now I guess I can update my post too! My AR is now a 10.5" barrel!
