Getting married in a month or so, and the wife-to-be says we should get a pair of pistols with whatever money we get as wedding gifts.

What do you guys think would look good paired up?

Anything we get becomes an instant heirloom piece, so we won't be getting rid of them. I'd also still like something practical, if it's just going to sit in a presentation box it's of no use to me.

Thoughts?

They make pretty PPKs

so it has to be considered. But unless you're James Bond, a PPK is not a MAN'S gun.

If you can afford it, matched, engraved 1911s are THE answer; if you want, hers in .38 Super, yours in good-ol' .45.

If planning on spending less, my vote: brought this revovler (SW M22, Model of 1917, nickel) home, and the wife was about to give me H-ll; then she looked at it and said: "It can stay, it's pretty. You, I'm not so sure about." That's high praise from her.

You should rule out anything plastic then. Plastic won't stand up to the test of time...at least not and look good doing it. Nickel plated steel can always be refinished. How do you refinish polymer?

I would suggest a pair of nickel plated 5-shot revolvers...with long barrels.

This one isn't nickel plated, but you get the idea. And the grips should probably be white or pearl.

I see lots of hi-point "his & hers combinations" available on gunbroker maybe a couple of brand new .380's? (Just kidding....:)

...

2 matching Springfield Armory EMP 1911's SAO, cocked and locked, 9+1, 9mm's.

Same, smooth, light, trigger-pull each shot.. Night sights, 3 mags, very nicely engraved wood grips, full grip, yet "thin" and very very accurate out of the box.

Small enough for easy ccw if needed..

Your lives are both worth 1K each, NO, Yes ? For a beautifully balanced, natural point/aim and shoot, deadly accurate, pistol, for up close and personal HD/SD matching love-guns.

Gold plated Hi-Powers, of course. :p
Go down to a shop and findsome classic sidearms, 1911s, HiPowers, Smith Model 10s, see which ones you both like the most, and snag 'em.

Get a 3913 for you and a 3913 Ladysmith for her, have some matched custom engraving done and get some fancier grips than the stock Zytel. The 3913 was the second gun I ever bought and I recently bought my wife a 3913 LS for an anniversary gift, it also happened to be her first handgun. The two guns are different enough to be unique yet similar enough that it's obvious they are supposed to be a matched pair.

Congrats!

Get your prenuptial agreement completed - list it all including your guns, your wills done if you Never have to use a prenuptial agreement if you should 'split' and your own wedding guns... wedding set if you prefer.

Smith and Wesson, Ruger, Glock or something like those pretty 1911 styles if you both love to shoot them!

I would get a set of his and hers 'classic single action revolvers' myself if I wanted a wedding set.

Best wishes again. May you have a loving and long relationship.

Catherine
PS: You should have your wills written up/completed whether you are single or married anyway.

For some reason I'm thinking revolvers.

My top 3 Revolver picks are:

The Model 60 & 60LS as mentioned above, j-frames are forever.

4 Consecutive numbered Colt SAA's w/ silver conched double gun rigs...how much could that cost? ;)

I think you can still get the consecutive # Ruger 50th anniversary pair of .357 and .44 Magnum Flattops.

And then for something completely different last time I called SIG they had a special on their hold recording of matched ser. # 556 rifle and 226.

Either way, congrats!

It's funny, here everyone is saying "matched" guns and for some reason I was thinking "complimentary" guns like a revolver and rifle in the same caliber or something similar.

This is the wrong woman for you, she will shoot up all your reloads and you’ll never have any to shoot. Now, can you please forward her contact information to me?

Just kidding
Best of luck to you wish my wife would have said something like that……. Oh Ya matching 1911 all the way!!

Well, I don't know how much you would shoot something celebrating your wedding. I like the idea of a matched pair though;

I'd look for something of new production, in consecutive serial #s.

First gun that come to mind was a Colt WWI Repro.

Though I gotta say, a blingy bright stainless .38 super pair w/ ivory grips would also look pretty awesome too.

If I were to do that now, I'd buy a DA/SA Sig P226 for myself, and a DAK P226 for my wife, both 9mm and both 2-tone.

Sigs are all metal and great guns, so you could shoot and carry them forever and not have to worry about much.

I'd get the DAK for the wife because she has a bad flinch with SA triggers.

+1 for matching 1911's. It's a timeless classic. Both in .45.

Or you could go the Sig route. Get whatever they call the stainless steel variant of the P226 or P229 these days. You can't go wrong.

Congratulations on your wedding! I hope it brings both of you many years of happiness. :)
