I just picked up my Michigan CCW, and had a question regarding ambiguity in the license and law, regarding establishments serving alcohol.

Here is what the law says:
(d) A bar or tavern licensed under the Michigan liquor control code of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303, where the primary source of income of the business is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass and consumed on the premises. This subdivision shall not apply to an owner or employee of the business. The Michigan liquor control commission shall develop and make available to holders of licenses under the Michigan liquor control code of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303, an appropriate sign stating that “This establishment prohibits patrons from carrying concealed weapons”. The owner or operator of an establishment licensed under the Michigan liquor control code of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303, may, but shall not be required to, post the sign developed under this subdivision. A record made available by an establishment licensed under the Michigan liquor control code of 1998, 1998 PA 58, MCL 436.1101 to 436.2303, necessary to enforce this subdivision is exempt from disclosure under the freedom of information act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 to 15.246.

Here is what the back of my permit says:
However, a licensee shall not carry a concealed weapon at ...(other places)... bar, lounge or dining room licensed to serve liquor, ...(other places)

Does anyone know if this is just old wording that didnt get changed, or what teh deal is?

Should clarify my confusion is that the law says primary source of income, and back of permit says anywhere licensed

I dug out my permit from 2001 and my newest one. Sure enough, they didn't bother changing the language. Originally, the ban on carrying in bars included any establishment that served liquor. IIRC, the law was changed in 2003 to any establishment that derives its primary source of income from the sales of alcohol.

Cool, thanks. Figured it was something stupid like that. Gotta say I'm impressed at how low budget the licenses appear to be. I've seen corporate badges that are better done.

The law book isn't much more clear. The law did, in fact, change as has been indicated. For me, I just do my best. I never go to bars, retaurants only, and never one that says anything with the word "Pub". If they make any big tah-do over selling alcohol, I avoid it.
