Well, it just had to be today, my birthday of all days. :fire:
I feel we should work towards getting handgun manufacturers to no longer import any handguns whatsoever into the state of CA. This must include law enforcement. If we can't buy guns, then we should make sure the cops can't either.
We should also drop any support for the governor of CA right now, oppose every singe thing he wants from this day forward no matter what it is. I think we might even do something really stupid and petty like gather at the state capital and burn/shred copies of his movies.

Man this really irks me. Wouldn't be so bad if the bill applied to the cops, but it doesn't. The cops can continue to have any firearm they so desire. While I, the law abiding, tax paying jerk I am can have less and less.

Anyone have names and addresses of all the hand gun manufacturers selling in CA?

Send Arnie a letter.
"...cops can continue to have any firearm they so desire..." Nope. Most cops use what they're issued. Police departments are exempt from mag capacity and other idiotic laws.
Most firearm manufacturers make a CA legal version of their products. If you want to know who is selling in CA, pop into your local gun shop.

This will work out about as well as COBIS. Lotsa bucks, no solution. Like most crap from politicians' pens, it may look good on paper to folks who are ignorant to begin with ...

I wonder if the rounds will still fire if a piece or two of duct-tape are put on the primer? It would probably render the "microstamping" unreadable, and it doesn't even matter if it's illegal, since the law is only there to "help" catch someone who's already done something way more illegal (if there is such a thing) in the first place.

Neiman Marcus the Dallas-based department store drew the wrath of Texas Tech fans after the school's attempt to join the Southwest Conference was denied in 1952. Red Raider fans were so angry that many cut up their Neiman-Marcus charge cards and mailed them to the store. Legend has it that Stanley Marcus got involved and helped sway SMU's vote toward Tech's favor.

The point is the people protested the only way that they knew how and acheived the desired result. Neiman Marcus (in practice) had nothing to do with the Southwest Conference, but in reality he was able to help make something happen.

Different times maybe. These days, the more people that are offended by a law or rule the "more right" the opposition thinks they are.

So far Maryland has spent FIVE MILLION DOLLARS on their microstamping law and they have yet to solve even ONE crime as a result....Typical of lefties; they work to pass feel good laws regardless who foolish or impractical.

Talked to a friend of mine from Cali and he said part of the bill is a ban on ammo that is not 100% free of lead. Hello - can't be done. Anti-gun folk are too educated to realize this, but they think it's a great idea. Go figure. :what:

Oh and he said that Cali is just one stop on the micro stamping parade. He said the goal is to take it nationwide.

This makes me want to start getting ready for whatever might come next in the next few rounds of stupidity on the hill.

no lead? WTH? they want depleted uranium? (for armored vehicles) steel? (for Kevlar) copper jacket? (no lead) silver? (for the occasional werewolf) rubber? (for the idiots that make these laws)
While I'm glad I chose to live elsewhere, I'm worried these crackpot ideas might catch on. Then to think there is a good chance we'll have a socialist president...I think the end is near or it coming time to see if the 2ndA is put to use after the tyrants attempt to turn our country in to a nanny state. Grrr...

It wasn't just your birthday, it was mine too. Crap.

Time to distribute the defeat methods all over the place. The firing pin is easy, but I've yet to see a chamber imprint anywhere on a casing, anyone else have a link showing where this occurs?

IIRC MD's law was to create a ballistic fingerprint database, not microstamping. You're correct that the state has blown $5 million in taxpayer money for $0 ROI.

The location of the imprint on the case will probably depend on the make & model of the handgun. From what I understand there are several potential sites.

Can you imagine the legal mess by a kB traced back to a chamber weakened by the process of inlaying the microstamp?

'Your honor, the state's requirement of this safety technology has made the weapons unsafe...'

How much do you want to bet that ammo manufacturers will issue warnings stating that their products should not be used in handguns w/ microstamp technology due to an increased chance for case or primer rupture?

Help me out here....

Will the CA microstamping law apply only to NEW MODELS released after 2010 (i.e. guns not already on the DOJ list of safe handguns)?...Or does it apply to ALL purchases/transfers after 2010?

Thanks,
TCW

YES

NO

That's where the law doesn't make any sense and teh defacto gun controll begins. California residents will not be offered any of the new guns...unless...someone moves to CA already with the firearm in legal posession...then they can sell it in a PPT to any California resident.

The law truly makes no sense.

LOL! So, let's say a criminal/gangbanger actually purchases a gun at a firearms dealer. All of the current DOJ-approved handguns will be available with no microstamping device, but he's going to opt for the new microstamping "Sig P386" or the "Glock G55" instead? What???:banghead:

You have my sympathies. I fought the system in California for years, but finally had to escape to Freedom (Nevada) for sanity purposes. I was active duty military serving in California, bought my AR-15 A-2 HBAR legally in 1988. Uncle Sam sent me overseas, but I later got stationed again in California. I missed the "re-registration" period for the grandfather clause on real Colt AR riles. When I tried to register it, they told me I was a felon (active duty military with a national level security clearance). They got their own lawyer to figure out the problem, and I was allowed to keep the rifle for range shooting only, not being allowed to ever let anybody else touch it, with a hefty registration fee, and annual reporting to the California Secretary of state. Before retiring from the Military I had to get rid of the rifle (as they were waiting to convict me as a felon) once I wasn't active duty military anymore. In this whole mess, the NRA (I'm a life member) wasn't much help, due to the overwhelming anti-gunners in California. I will never forgive the California liberal Government for what they did (but was grateful they let me keep my rifle for a few more years while I was stationed there). Prior to the incident, I was going to make California my retirement location.
