Aside from my M1s, this surplus 30.06 is my favorite.

NM20.jpg

It's a low-numbered (302XXXX) Remington 1903 and was one of the early Lend-Lease 1903s rushed over to the Brits early in WW2 for use by their Home Guard troops. Note the infamous red stripe the Brits smeared over the stock and upper handguard so as to visual distinguish it from a .303-chambered rifle that a panicked soldier might grab and attempt to load in a hurry. All parts are original, and the barrel, while having exterior wear, dings and dents, has a pristine bore and crown.

It's been a great shooter. I've used it at the Nat'l Matches and in Vintage Mil Rifle shoots at the local club.

Is that one of the Red Star '03's? That is a real treasure.

Thanks. No, this one isn't from the Red Star collection. Mine does have a lower serial number than some of the Red Star 03s that were discussed in the article on that collection. It also has the original Dec '41 barrel.

Still a shooter after all these years.

From the 2009 Nat'l Matches at Camp Perry:

Just dug out a gun I got in a estate sale for $10 or $50. It is a 1918
03 Springfield 30-06 with a 1928 Springfield barrel in a bull-pup stock. The barrel is 22" long and the gun is 32' long. It's an after market stock. I disassembled it and could find no markings on the stock or trigger system. I have loaded some cast bullets, and am looking for a scope to put on it.

There was a real version of the 1903 that had that configuration. I don't think it made it out of the developmental stage, but I've seen some articles on it. I don't know if I'd like my face right on top of the receiver if a primer or case head decided to let go.

Greetings from the Czech Republic: CZ 858 (Sa. Vz.58 converted to civilian use by cutting away the automatic portion of the trigger group and hard-welding steel brick on it's place by CZUB to prevent re-installation).

I jokingly call this rifle "CZ 858MS", with the MS standing for "Modernizace Socialni" - cheap modernization. I took pride in getting all the quality accessories substantially cheaper than the typical "tacticool prices" are by hand-picking them from small manufacturers and searching for bargains.

Nice gun, interesting conversion. Unfortunately, in the US, once an automatic weapon, it's always considered an automatic weapon. No amount of conversion to a functional weapon will change that as the laws are now written.

Here's my K98 Mauser,,,

Here's my K98 Mauser,,,
My grandfather gave it to me on my 12th Birthday.

I recently had it appraised,,,
This is it's pedigree.

"It is a k98 made at the Oberndorf Mauser factory (BYF Code) in 1944."

Family lore says that my great uncle Banty brought this back from WW-II.

He gave it to his younger brother (my Papa).

Papa took a Bear with in Virginia.

I have no idea what kind it was,,,
But apparently it was eating his goats

I have taken three deer and one Arkansas razorback hog,,,
As well as many hundreds of dump rats,,,
And a few feral dogs.

I am so very glad that my Dad refused to allow me to "sporterize" it.

I have the original leather sling it came with,,,
All it needs to be restored is a cleaning rod and hand guard,,,
I remember vividly the bad day I dropped it and broke the original one.

Last time I had her out was last summer,,,
Off of a cheap plastic rest I hit 4 out of 5 coke cans at 100 yards.
