Mineral Oil...question about

I use mineral oil in my mountain bike brakes. Never thought of using it for anything gun related.
 
WAAAY back in my career, we toyed with using it as a coolant in submerged computer components since it does not conduct electricity. It was a sound idea... except it doesn't displace much heat very well either so we just ended up with a lot of hot, oily components.
 
Lubrikit sells an oil by Lubriplate that is essentially odorless. It is supposed to offer very good corrosion protection.
 
What ever you use or want to use, put some in the freezer first and see what happens.

If the stuff turns solid then it is useless in cold weather.

I use refrigeration compressor oil, recommended by Phil Sharpe in his book on Rifles. Stays liquid in very cold temperatures and has no acids in it.
