I think you need about one of every kind, meaning

Handgun catagory
Rimfire revolver
Rimfire autoloader
Centerfire revolver .38 special (minimum caliber)
Centerfire autoloader with 16 shot standard capacity magazine

Rifle catagory
Rimfire bolt rifle, scoped
Rimfire semi auto 10 round capacity minimum
Centerfire Bolt Rifle, scoped Large caliber
Centerfire semi auto 7.62x39 or .223

Shotgun, pump or doublebarrel 12 or 20 ga.

other than these I cannot imagine needing another gun:rolleyes:

If this reply does not suffice there is always the old faithful answer of
"One more":neener:

Minimum 'gunperson' kit?

.22 handgun
.22 rifle/carbine

Defense caliber handgun to be carried.

12 ga shotgun for home defense, hunting and clays.

.30 rifle for hunting and other long range use.

A rifle in your hands, a shotgun slung over your back, and two handguns in your belt.

Oh, you mean total. :D

All depends on what your interests are.
For me, the bare minimum would be a Garand and a match grade AR.
I could live without everything else. Not to say that I'd be happy to give up everything else, but that if it came down to 2, those are the 2 I'd hold onto the strongest.

The minimum nuber is one less than the number in which the feds decide it might be a good idea to see what you're up to. ;)

I'm gradually working on my collection, and my sig lists what I currently own.

I did get to play with a friends calico the other day. I REALLY want one of these. The 100 round cartrige alone made me drool. :D

What you should have?

1. 3 .22LR (Have lever action winchester, 10/22 ruger semi, marlin semi, for hunting small game and setting up field of fire for defence of enclosed areas. High copass Magazines.

2. 9mm Semi-auto (I have a S&W Allied Forces)

3. 357 Mag. 686 (6)

4. 20 or 12 Ga. semi or pump

5. .308 or 30-06 (I perfur savage.) 9X scope

6.1884C Marlin (shoots the same round as my 686) .357 Mag. and 38 spc.

Zero.

I was a "gun person" long before I got my first gun.

That said, I want nearly every gun I see. I have 10, working on getting the other 90.

Obviously a real gunperson should have a minimum of one of each action type for each caliber in existance.

Let's see...pistol, revolver, break-action, bolt, pump, semiauto, lever, flint, percussion, matchlock, ten times...um...carry the nought...uh, anyone here good with math?:D

There's a big difference between a minimum number and a wish list, and sometimes I have a difficult time discerning between the two.

Let's just say that the number lies somewhere between three (a rifle and two handguns) and a hundred, evenly split between long guns and handguns. I also suspect that calibers should play some role in the selection: What's a collection with at least a couple of .45s, for example? And at least three 9mm handguns: a P.38, a P5, and a P88. Well, make it four and add a P99. And that's just for starters.

Tough call, to be sure.

my list goes...

survival rifle...something simple and reliable in 22lr

self defense pistol...my choice was a 4" 1911, but anything that is sufficiently powerful and reliable

home defense/bird hunting shotgun...I chose a mossberg 500

medium to large game hunting rifle...I have several in different calibers

some form of a combat suitable rifle...something with detachable mags and semi-auto...AR, AK, FAL, M1A, whatever

fun gun/plinker...always up to what the individual prefers, I like the M1 carbine

some type of hand cannon for fending off those rabid, mutant, man-eating goat shark things...:neener:

Bufford-

We do, without a doubt, have members one board with more than 42. What niche do they fall in?

Does anyone else have a firearm checklist? By this, I mean what kind of guns would you never find yourself without? After about six minutes of thought, I think my minimum on hands would be as follows:

22lr Semi Auto Handgun or Revolver
9mm Luger/Para Semi Auto Handgun - High Capacity
38sp/357mag Revolver
45acp Semi Auto Handgun - Single Stack

22lr Bolt Action or Semi Auto Rifle - Up to 4x Scope
270win/308win/30.06 etc Bolt Action Rifle - At Least Up to 7x Scope
223rem/7.62x39/7.62x51 etc Semi Auto Battle Rifle

More is obviously better and variety is the spice of life, but I think this list actualized with quality firearms is the minimum I would ever have in my safe.

Too wierd... within the last week I just sold a few rifles, and a shotgun due to the recession, but...

This is what I told my wife I will not sell...

P22
9mm Baby eagle (have four 15 and one 32rd mag)
.38sp revolver
In the market for a .45

.22rifle semi
.308 Remington700
Ar-15 M4 .223

I would only add my 12ga 870 Shotgun...

One firearm in every popular caliber.

Nobody said this was an easy or inexpensive hobby. Now go get a second job and start buying some guns.

Minimum number? of course, one . . . one that you really love and shoot well.

I had one like that, a long time ago, and then I had none for a very long time. Now I own five, but only really like three of them.

I'm still keeping the other two, though.
