Hi all,

My buddy has a Modèle 1892. It’s an old French revolver, solidly built and with an interesting swinging side plate for easy access to the mechanics. However, the hammer doesn’t lock back to fire in single-action (double action works fine) - I took it apart but I couldn’t find any kind of sear that looked worn that would prevent this. The grips aren’t original and it was used as someone else’s truck gun for a while (odd choice) but I’m not sure about it’s history other than that and am only familiar with the mechanics as far as cleaning. Does anyone know if this was a common problem with this revolver?

As a last resort, this book contains detail stripping instructions for the Modele 1892. Each step is accompanied by a good sized full color photo. You should be able to find out if anything is missing or broken:

(This is Amazon's listing for it. I don't like buying books from Amazon any more because I don't like their delivery service. You can check Ebay, abebooks, Barnes and Noble, or a bunch of other places).

Try Youtube, of course, and other internet places before spending the money. This is an interesting gun, and there is quite a bit of information out there on it, including stripping it.

There are NO common problems I am aware of for this gun, except for getting ammunition for it. It was both very solid and very well made.

I have no knowledge or experience with these but if I were you, or your buddy, I would look at different videos and drawings to see if perhaps there is something you’re both missing.

You will need to translate on this drawing.

If I were to make a guess, that #11 part on the schematic called a “Schieberfeder“ = slide spring, would be the part I would look at as being broken or missing.
