I just ordered my 91/30 from aimsurplus. I chose the "handpicked" one and paid a total of $108 which included the shipping and handling. I am waiting for it to arrive at the local FFL who will charge me a total of $27 for the transfer. So it will cost me a total of $135 for an excellent hand picked rifle.

I was also thinking of applying for the C&R license. It only costs $30 and will pay for itself after the first purchase.

My wife got me a "Hand Picked" 91/30 from AIM. I got a laminated stock rifle built after the war (WW II) that looks like it was never issued. BTW these are stored with the action screws loose, check yours before shooting. Some rifles will like heavy ball some, light ball so try a bit of both. On cleaning, it is the Hot Water that dissolves the salt. I clean mine at the kitchen sink using a big tea kettle, dish soap and a .30 cal. brush. I rinse the metal bolt parts and bore with hot water, then rinse the cleaning rod as well. (So the salt won't transfer) The hot water speeds the drying process. I follow up with Hoppe's NO.9.
Best,
Rob

I talk regularly with a guy that is a milsurp guru and from his research he states that the barrel harmonics are a major problem with the carbines. Not an issue with the 91/30s so they shoot better at long range.

if you can get an actual 1891 mine shoots about 2-3inches at 100 not too shabby if you ask me
they run a bit more but are worth it either that or get a Fin

im lucky my new england westinghouse has finnish markings on it

I have a 91/30 Tula Hex.
It's not got the prettiest bore, but it still shoots about 4" at 100 yards (I'm 54 and need reading glasses). I was standing, shooting fee hand. I did notice that the sights are effected by the heat rising off the barrel after you shoot a few 'boxes' of ammo. I shot some Romanian light ball from a $95 spam can of 440 rnds. Can't beat the price.
About cleaning: I agree with the Ammonia, or soap, and the hot water too.
Add this: go back and patch the bore with Hoppes every day for a few days or until they show clean. My bore is pitted, so it takes a few days to get the final cleaning done.
When I got the gun, I started with a copper cleaner, what a black mess! the barrel was filthy. The Hoppes patches came out green for over a week, pulling copper oxide out.
This gun looks great on the outside, and shoulders well. Wear a thick coat while shooting (the Russian soldier did) that will ease the recoil.

I have 3 of them and they all are nice rifles. Very well made and reasonably accurate.

A lot of Mosins will need to be either re-crowned or counter-bored as the ends were not cleaned real well by Russian soldiers.

I have 44 Mosin and I have bubbaed it ... (sorry guys, I bought it for making a toy, not collecting piece of history ...) however watch the shots on 100 m. I did one flyer, so I made six instead of five shots. One double, one tripple and the flyer. Neglecting fyler, it is around 1,4 moa.
Scoped with nikon monarch EER 2x20 scope, in ATI stock. My best target was 0,7 MOA. So if you are lucky, I believe mosin could be around 1 MOA weapon ...

No, antique guns don't fall under GCA, so they are excluded, HOWEVER, a M91 would qualify, but not anything newer so... if your willing to pay for something that rare, you can buy it and have it shipped to your door.

Again range report, this time with harris bipod, 0,95 MOA, 109 yds (100 m), M44 (1946)

Depends on what you call add ... e-bay cheap solutions are ... cheap. You get what you pay for, it does not hold zero. So after the first experience with cheap solution (which did not solve anything) I took my mosin to gunsmith and told him ...
EER means to mount the scope really forward and the lower the better, so I started with pic 1 and current version is pic. 2 Detail is pic. 3.
