Mossberg enters the handgun market

I didn't think a Mossberg pistol would get so much attention, but the more I look at it, the more I have to consider it for my future 9mm single stack purchase. How it stacks up next to a Walther PPS M2, Springfield XD-E, and the soon to arrive Glock 48 is going to be the deciding factor for me.

The 9 and 12 round ETS Glock mags and cross bolt safety is appealing. I'll wait for feedback on how it shoots.

And so easy to clean the channel which I would like to do every time. Bravo to Mossberg on this one. Really thinking out of the box.

My take on the usefulness of this design feature is that it depends on the circumstances.

If i'm cleaning the gun at home it is a good thing because you don't need to pull the trigger. If I need to take the slide off while out in the field I see it as a bad thing because the striker and end plate are loose and thus able to be lost or dropped into the dirt.

I’ve watched a couple of videos that demonstrated how the gun breaks down. I really, really like the striker assembly removal thing. It’s dirt simple. Lock the slide back, press a button underneath the striker assembly to remove the locking plate, remove the plate and striker, then hold down the slide release as you pull the slide forward off the frame.

Not sold on the clear mags yet. And I’d have to play with the safety version to see how that would go.

But at a minimum I will be purchasing the base model and a bunch of glock mags.

PASS! You have to remove the firing pin to take the slide off! A cross-bolt safety, LOL. Made on the same assembly line as their $200 Maverick shotguns. PASS!

Yea I’m not sure how these will compete alongside other polymers that have a proven track record. I love mossberg shotguns, but I don’t think I can get down with their pistols.

Interesting that they jumped into the highly competitive CCW market first.

Yes, Interesting. Not to mention downright ballsy. Obviously they had to be doing a lot of planning and research. Nothing shows strength then to jump in the areana with a lot of tough guys and challenge them all. Reminds me of the Story of Lancelot, when the Black Knight rode in and did not challenge one Knight, but hit the shields of All. Thus the Hero.

Jealousy and envy have been around since the time of man.

Neither have anything to do with it. It ill either work or it will not.. We are in an era when the general public is Beta testing for the gun manufactures. We have seen it countless times no matter how big or small the company.

Thats not really the point. Nothing knew, has been going on for years. I don't know how well the stock market will be doing next month, do not know if you and I will even be alive. Something tells me you are a fan of another product? Glock? The gun might Flop, it might really hit into Glock Sales. Would that be a bad thing? If it is successful, would it increase jobs in America? I am not only betting the gun will do well, I am wishing them the best of Luck. I see no reason to bash the gun, nor wish the folks at Mossberg ill.
And how do you have information that they did not perform all kinds of test? If you have inside info, please provide. Could it be that is why they have not had any issues in the test performed now with outsiders? Question, do you wish the gun too be successful, or do you wish for failure? I get the impression, the latter.

I see no reason to bash the gun,

If you re-read what I wrote, you will see no bashing.. I stated it will work or it won't. I would assume that is pretty cut and dry for any new gun debuted.

I am indifferent to any small gun regardless of the makers name on the slide. I prefer larger guns, period.
Of course I want as many options as possible. I may fall and break my hip one day in the future and need a mouse gun.

I wish the MC1 all the success. I do not own a 9 and really don't have any interest in one but a lot of folks do so that is the place to start. Maybe this is the start of something big. Colt should take notice Mossberg entering the pistol market and Standard Mfg Co is into the 1911 and SA market.

There aren't many Mossbergs I consider owning, but the non-safety version of this new pistol could be one of them.

Made in Eagle Pass, Texas just like some of their shotguns and lever guns. Since that is a border town, these are true Tex-Mex guns.

It will have to compete with Ruger. I would pick Walther made in Germany. The Walther PPS M2 is $350 at Buds. That price includes Tennifer finish on metal and more importantly depending on average cartridge pressure of chambering one or two shots at the Ulm proof house.
You make good chips in Texas. Dorritos is my favorite brand.

And that price also includes sights that fall off and a safety recall within the first couple years of release. I love Walthers through and through, but I can not be convinced the PPS M2 was an "upgrade" for them.

That's not a bad looking little 9mm. I personally would stay away from the safety-equipped one, but the standard gun may be an interesting shoot...and if I am offered the chance to shoot one I certainly won't say no.

Let's see how time treats it, that's a pretty crowded pool to jump into with a first-ever-offering from a manufacturer. :)

Stay safe!

That's where the volume is. This is why FMK and Honor also started in the same market.

Yes, and it is interesting that both the Mossberg and the FMK appear to be going directly at the Glock Market. The Honor Guard simply the small 9mm.The FMK stictly after the Glock 19, The Ruger seems to be going after the Glock 19 as well with the Security9.
One thing I would like to know, is if the Mossberg sub-chassis is steel or aluminum. If aluminum, then all bets off. I would also like to see the gun broken down and especially the rails. I personally am intrigued by the Mossberg, I really like some of the features, but I Prefer a double action. I especially like the way they have set the gun up to have the Striker so easily removed. I have always been OCD in keeping the channels clean in all my guns. Other gun manufacturers should pay attention to that. JMO.
I am most happy with my EDC. But, I love learning about new guns. And I especially love the Marketing end of it. The Mossberg especially and will be so interested how it performs down the road going against the Glock 43 and the New Glock 43X.

I hate cross bolt safeties. I won't even abide them on air rifles. There is a Mossberg 500 is with me today precisely because it doesn't share a cross bolt safety with the Remington 870. Not a pistol for me but I hope it's successful for Mossberg.

The safety is optional on this pistol.
