The French military's new Glock...

Looks like youre basic Gen 5 in FDE with a lanyard loop.

I actually prefer the standard color slide over the painted slides, so that works for me.

Should serve them well. The Blackhawk holster looks nice with the thumb retention.

Wonder what condition they are trained to carry in?

we MIGHT see MAC 50 surplus units sometime in the next few years

I gave up looking years ago. I do recall one on GB, I was too dumb to go all in.
Never seen one in the wild, but count me in if the French ever dump them.

Makes me want to re-watch 'Lost Command', even though there were no Mle 50s in it.

Great choice of pistol. What a shame we didn't do the same as the 17 is by far the greatest 9mm pistol ever designed in the history of the world. I have no doubt we only picked the SIG because they learned from how Beretta rigged the contracts last time, and they did it themselves this time. Glock will probably learn and rig it the third time and we'll finally get a good pistol in 50 years, assuming we're still using pistols in that time.

I own versions of the SAA, a revolver or two that followed it, 1911's, and Beretta 92's. They all work well. The Army sure could have done worse.

The French Army was the best or one of the the best armies in Europe for many hundreds of years. IMHO it's harsh to mock those many thousands of brave soldiers just because their leadership during WWII were idiots. My grandfather told me about several inspirational incidents involving The Resistance during the war. Many of them died bravely and horribly in defense of their country. His story about finding a group of teenaged boys and girls hung in a clearing was heartbreaking.

The mockery is disrespectful, juvenile, and not THR.

i am too young to remember when beretta got the contract. But how did sig and beretta rig it to win? I understand the sig was lower price and a true modulator design.

When beretta won, i read the sig p226 was the best on the trials and had a price per pistol lower then beretta. But the total package with parts ran higher with the sig. i had no idea glock competed in that battle either.

Greatest 9mm ever designed BY FAR is a pretty serious claim. I can think of a lot of autos I'd rather have than a Glock. At least they got rid of them god awful finger grooves. Ergonomics are an afterthought. Block perfection.

I like the Holster!:)

But what gun did the French special ops use when the Air France plane in 1994. Flight 8969 was hijacked by 4 members of Armed Islamic Group??

It wasn't a Glock:)

I agree that individual French soldiers from WWII should not be mocked in any way. Fact is though, that joke will never die. The French leadership let the world down and other countries lost more lives because of it.

My Grandpa died right near the end of WWII in 1945 and he should have never been there. So on a personal note, at age 3 my dad lost his dad because the war lasted longer than it should have. Resentment towards the French leadership of that era is engrained in many but I'm sure nobody is actually mocking soldiers who risked their lives for the good of the world.

If you're interested, here's the GAO report on the XM9 trials:

Beretta outbid them by $1 precisely. I doubt they just guessed well.

From the referenced document:

"Beretta’s and SACO’s price quotes for each magazine were $9.30 and $11.95, respectively, and for each spare parts set were $209.42 and $221.79, respectively. The cost evaluator simply multlplled each contractor’s magazine unit price by 400 percent of the number of pistols and each contractor’s spare parts set price by 10 percent of the number of pistols. Because of the 400-percent factor used to evaluate magazines,
Beretta’s lower magazine price more than any other factor resulted in its having the lowest overall evaluated price."

Might sound stupid, but what is the "SACO" i kept reading. I saw it on the link Slater sent. Could not figure out which pistol they were talking about.
