The Boy Scout Motto

taught me to Be Prepared. The more prepared you are the less likely you are to have a serious problem. For those who like to deal with numbers and statistics, you improve the odds and are less likely to become a statistic if you are prepared. Simple...
Book ending your kids will improve your (their) odds... Why not do it then? Hello!:banghead:

I see one major error that is involved with reported wildlife attacks. Missing hikers that are never found don't add to the list. Many people have disappeared from the Cascade range here in Oregon. Most of the ones I've read about in the news are single hikers going on multi-day hikes and are never seen again. No remains are ever found.

There was a little boy who disappeared while out getting a Christmas tree with his father and grandfather a few years ago. It was snowing heavily and there were no footprints. The butterfly effect may have happened or someone may have snatched a meal. Either way no sign of the boy was ever found.

So we know that the number of reported incidents are small...

I grew up on a ranch. I've dealt with cougers taking livestock, I've been stalked. I have a young daughter. My wife and I both go armed, we have a golden retreiver, he will not let any of us out of his sight. Parents need to be very aware of where their child/children are and keep close it's part of the job. Add a large dog in orbit of the family unit and you have the best way I can think of to make any predator think twice and you can still enjoy yourselves.

Being aware of your surroundings is just good sense. Most of the people who lose their children or become victims do so because they are complacent. What is the most dangerous thing out there, be it in the woods or in your neighborhood??? A false sense of security! It's that simple.

live in Canon (Canyon) City Colorado approx. 26k live here, Home of the Royal Gorge for those of you who may remember that rather than the name of the town.

Hey I fly into Fremont County Airport sometimes. We took the Royal Gorege tain trip last time we visited. Very nice. I'll have to do some hiking and rafting down there. Its pretty country.

Remember the old AFVN radio "commercials" for the in-country Rest and Recreation centers -- "Bring your weapon.";)

city mountain lion

Years ago there was an automobile show at the convention center here in the city of Pittsburgh.

No, a mountain lion did not creep in, but the mascot for the Mercury Cougar car was being walked around by it's keeper when a young, impulsive child ran past the cat. Apparently it triggered the cat's reflexes, and the big cat pounced on the boy and took the neck grip mentioned before. Those large curved teeth are just right for pinching off the blood supply to the brain or even severing the spinal column. The keeper, the boy's father and other adults were not able to get the cat to release it's grip; I suppose in it's mind this "meal" was not going to be taken by another predator.

I believe it was an off duty state policeman who arrived in time enough to place his 357 magnum in contact with the cougars own neck and one round ended the cat's life.
The boy did suffer some brain damage, but is alive today. If anyone knows how this boy is doing today, please post.

It's almost impossible to dissuade any attacking, large animal, especially with bare hands, or even make shift weapons at hand.
Bearing arms is also a "passive" responsibility for those with courage to do so.

Creeping Incrementalism
Am I being clear at what I'm getting at?

oh yeah, you're lound and clear. You're the kind of person that will exaggerate anything to the ridiculous in order to be 'right'. Move along. Go stink up somebody' else's topic.

What ever happened to "better safe than sorry?"

He obviously never learned that. Or heard at a know-it-all stage of his life and chose to scorn it forevermore.

Not just the hills

The medium priced house my neighborhood over half a mil. its all assfault and some parks.

and if you go four blocks, there is warning for big cats. some lady got her yellow lab gobbled up. half a mile from here.

the signs here in the PRK say " Make yourself look big. Dont run away." keep pets in sight.' And that mountain lions are an important part of our echo-system."

How is a lion, an important part of our yuppy infested, mega-burb silicon valley. Not only that, we have so many deer in our hills, they roam the hoods at night.

And yet. If I were to say, eat one. I could go to jail. Animal cruelty.

But I did the take the possum explosion in to my own hands. Or my wifes pitbulls mouth.

One night, it was raining and garbage night. The little disease infested rat monsters, were out in force.

So me and a local unamed fire man, got a bag of fosters, a stick, some garbage bags , and Jeans pit and went hunting.

Much fun. The dog killed four. they play dead, and she plays with them. Good times, good times.......

Now if i could just figure this lion problem. I need bigger dog I guess.
