I hope nobody is so naive to believe that all these movies are either coincidence or ignorance, though I'm sure ignorance plays a small part.
Hollywood writers and producers have a directive, and they have sworn to show guns in the hands of citizens as ineffective at best. It is a deliberate campaign of indoctrination intended to make real people shun guns as defensive weapons.
Any of the following scenes are straight out of their playbook, excerpts of which have been posted on THR before:
- good guy shoots friend accidentally
- good guy gets gun taken away
- good guy misses completely
- good guy uses gun but only makes situation worse
- good guy has gun but is stupid/drunk/turns out to be bad guy
Very few movies will ever include any of the following scenes, because they are forbidden by the hollywood playbook:
- good guy pulls gun and bad guy runs away or surrenders
- good guy shoots bad guy and wins
- good guy knows how to use gun and is competent and safe
There are exceptions, such as in "history of violence" when a good guy takes a gun away from a bad guy and kills two serial robbers/murderers... but then turns out to be a mafia hitman on the run (which is foreshadowed by his uncanny sniper-like ability to shoot an immobile man two feet away, which could only be the result of criminal experience because nobody can get that good just by, say, training).
