C'dale is one of the worst in the delta ...the cops will tell you to stay out after dark..

I was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf coast, I always heard how bad the Delta was but it wasn't until I spent three years working in Greenwood a few years back that I saw it firsthand. I had a friend stop by who was passing through, they took the "wrong" way into town off US 82 and he said it was worse poverty and slums than he saw growing up in the south side of Chicago. I couldn't WAIT to get out of there.

My fellow Mississippians have my sympathies.

Suit to block the injunction filed

The Mississippi Attorney General filed a suit to block the injunction with the Mississippi Supreme court this afternoon. No word yet when the Supreme Court will hear the case.

This is interesting to me because the relevant part of your constitution is almost word for word what the Colorado constituion says. As a sometime open carrier, I'll be on the lookout for similar shinanigans here. Good luck with the legal wrangling.

This is attributed to living in small town MS for 29 of my 34 years on this earth. Gangs are rampant and the police have lost control. My towns population is 15, 000 and the big town in the county. On top of the shootings and massive amount of burglaries we've had a arsonist burn down over 40 houses, a rapist break into 20+ houses and rape women, and the fbi, dea, and homeland security lock the town down twice the last two years to try and do something about the gangs. 80% of the population lives on welfare. Answer your question?
This is just incredible. I'm sorry to hear it, Mike. This is a perfect example, and therefore explanation, of why I take anti-gunners so personally. They are directly effecting people's lives in an incredibly negative way and in mind my are somewhat liable for the crimes that go unstopped due to the victims' inability to arm themselves. Yet to them, none of this ever crosses their minds. I think they sit back on their high horse and look at us rednecks with guns and only half a brain and think that they are actually helping. One look at your situation makes it painfully clear just how dangerous and what a serious threat an anti-2A person is. This needs to not be just another polite conversation amongst different political parties; this is life or death and needs to be treated as so. Imagine the anger you would feel if you fell victim to a crime and weren't able to defend yourself or your family because your capability to do so was stripped from you. Take that pictured anger and inject it directly into your discussions and activism in defending the Second Amendment.

I'll step off of my soap box now. Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six, Mike.

Mississippi Supreme Court declined to set aside the injunction

The Mississippi Supreme Court declined to set aside the injunction, apparently not on grounds for merit, but supposedly for procedural reasons.

As it stands the Hinds County Chancery Court will be allowed to hold it’s hearing on July 8th .

I heard that the state supreme court declined the case because you can't appeal a TRO. If it becomes a permanent injunction, then it can be appealed, according to one commentator.

If there arises any dispute regarding equities, adoptions, divorces as well as custodial rights, the Chancery Courts have jurisdiction in the state. Because they have the necessary jurisdiction to hear cases involving these matters. The number of Chancery Courts in the state is currently 20, with 48 Chancery Court judges serving in them.

By the definition of a Chancery Court’s jurisdiction, I fail to see where they have the right to decide that a firearm’s law is unconstitutional. What I do see is the only judicial court willing to hear and act on anti-gunners demands. We’ll see…

"the Democrats flock in there by the dozens when their checks come in at the first of the month to buy $150 to $200 .380 & 9mm autos"

First, "Democrat" isn't a substitute pejorative that fools anyone
Second, since a NICS check is run, none of those folks show as prohibited persons (not a guarantee, but does deter some, and block others)
Third, those folks are more likely to be in dire need of a firearm than yourself
Fourth, gang bangers are too cheap to spend money at gunstores, when stealing them is free and a matter of course in their nightly ritual

JPG19 says it best, when regarding guns in high-crime areas

rant aside...

Couldn't a flap holster made of clear vinyl skirt the "concealment" nonsense? It'd be silly looking, sweaty, but great in the rain! :D Thanks for the heads up on that goofy interpretation, that's some elastic judgment right there. It just goes to show "if it isn't defined (open carry) it isn't protected" which means we have to be very careful in ensuring laws are never expansive beyond their original intent. Especially on an issue like gun carry where certain classes of people demand unequal treatment for other classes of people, but the law is forced to be impartial --there is tremendous pressure to skirt or flex the law in these cases.

I lived in Greenville, MS back in the 80's. My dad was a police officer there. There were problems with gangs even then. Greenville now has a big problem with theft and burglary. The economyhas never been wonderful in Mississippi and generally the delta is a fairly desperate place for a lot of people regardless of race.

Got to admit, this thread has aroused my curiosity with regard to Mississippi's small-town gang culture. My first and only visit there was to follow the Natchez Trace a dozen or so years ago, and I have always wanted to return to explore the Delta Blues region around Clarksdale. This YouTube video, apparently produced in Clarksdale, however gives me pause: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmeIDMUoBrI .
Your concerns about concealed carry in Mississippi are well justified, but I can only offer my empathy, as I've already been stripped of my rights as resident of New York State. I pray that you will fare better.
LOL that's nothing. I am a native of south florida, and skip to 6:55 to see the norm - as they discharge AK's and SMG type pistols in public, and no one cares. If I see the thug with an AK, I'm dropping the hammer on him.

Just an update, the MS Supreme Court has unanimously upheld HB2 and shot down Circus Judge Kidd's injunction. The new definition of concealed (which allows open carry w/o a permit) is now in effect in MS.
