Today I was riding my bike through down town Salt Lake City. There were a lot of people on the sidewalk as I was crossing the street with a lot of other pedestrians so I was only going about 5 miles an hour when without warning, a grungy looking man walking next to me kicked the front tire of my bicylcle hard, almost knocking me over. I didn't know what his intentions were so immediatly my hand went to the butt of my gun. I didn't need to pull it out though because when he saw where my hand was he put his hands up and said the funniest thing. He said "sorry, wrong guy." I'm not sure what he meant by that but I'd like to think he meant he picked the wrong guy to steal a bike from.
Now, this story wont get on the news and it wont be published in statistics involving the use of guns to prevent crime and assaults. But my gun at the very least, saved me from getting into a fistfight, and maybe getting my bike stolen and who knows what that guy would have done next if I hadn't been able to defend myself. For all I know he was about to stab me. The weird thing is this happened in broad daylight in the central buisness district of a large city with a ton of people arround.
