A few weeks ago I changed my cleaning solution and oil just because kerosin smells up the house something fierce. Well I went shooting and then straight to my brothers house and did a quick field strip to wipe the gunk off the rails, ramp, and barrel. Well at about this time I noticed a smell that was new. My pistol smells like cinnimon sp??. Hoppes 9 and I think break free are what I am using.

What does your cleaning mix smell like when you are done?

Sounds like you are using FP10 for your lube. It has a cinnamon scent added. FWIW, it supposedly won't be taken for a foreign scent by animals like a petroleum smell would.

Depends on the gun.......

My mil-surps after shooting corrosive ammo always smell apple fresh, literally:D That is the type of dish washing detergent we use.

Hang on...drops mag, racks slide-all clear sniff, sniff--um this carry pc smells like blue steel and its been fired :D
....walks to sand bucket, inserts mag racks slide--one in the pipe, tops off mag --back on hip. OK checks other CCW [same drill as before] this one smell like stainless -and its been fired too :D

...walks across to kitchen bar, checks two more, yep unloaded sniff, sniff, Ok the model 10 smells like G96, and the 1911 smells like simple green/ivory soap/and Kleenbore Formula 3--depends on where I sniff. :D

whew!...don't ask about that holster tho'

Day before yesterday I was sitting on the front porch talking to my 70-something-year-old neighbor. The talk turned to childhood experiences with guns (she'd gotten a Midway flier that day...everybody sends my fliers and catalogs to her house because I have all my orders sent to her house) and she mentioned that every gun in every corner and closet of every relative's house smelled the same to her as a child - a distinctive metallic smell of some sort.

:D (You know where this is going.)

I fetched a bottle of Hoppe's #9 and I could see all of the memories coming back at the first whiff.

Like seeing a varmint in the garden and shooting a hole in the bedroom floor while she tried to get the shotgun to the bedroom window. I think it traumatized her as a child, but she doesn't hate guns or anything.

After shooting a few hundred rounds through my SL8, it smells like a piece of Tupperware that was left in the microwave way too long..

It smells the same after a good cleaning..:uhoh:

It's been in the 90's and I've I've been carrying my Kimber in a leather mid back holster. I don't think I really want to smell it. :uhoh:

My Winchester '97 has a varnish smell like antique furniture. Reminds me of my grandmother's old upright piano.

Boiled linseed oil, cause I just did what C.R. Sam says fit and file till the grip fits you. then I put a light coat of boiled linseed oil on them andthey look great a nice matt finish.....

Breakfree but I REALLY like the smell of powder blast. My guns love me for it.

My Wilson before I sold it smelled like crayons. My M1A smells like paint.

My wife learned a long time ago that she gets a lot more attention from me when she uses Rem Oil instead of Chanel #5...
