A few weeks ago a link was posted here for a site that made and sold Blackthorne Shillelaghs. I have wanted one for some time to replace my older cane. I ordered one and after it arrived I was very happy with my purchase. The stick I ordered is a heavy one at 500 grams, heavier enough that the maker, Liam O Caidhla, insured me it would be more than sturdy enough for a fighting stick as well as for walking support. It is 33 3/4 inches long and fits me perfectly. The knob is exactly right sized for either hand and it came with a heavy brass tip. The shaft is sealed with a black lacquer while the knob is done in clear.

All in all I am pleased with the service from this company... http://misticshillelagh.tripod.com/index.html

I would imagine because anyone can slip a rubber tip over the brass but most folks can't make the brass cup, then fit and pin it to the stick. This way I have a choice of which way I want it.

Use it in good health and spirits.

With luck it will only be used for walking...but classes are being arranged just in case...

Beautiful.

I'm struck by how much it resembles the stick that my grandpa Allen used to have. It might sound stupid, but I almost have a tear in my eye, remembering that thing. He didn't bring it out often but anytime he did I can remember being yelled at shortly afterwards, because I couldn't keep my hands off it. It was the perfect thing to fend off the imaginary bad guys who lived in the sand pit behind their house in Ocala, and when I got tired of battling evil I would use it to hold me up as I limped victoriously home for lunch. :D

Yeah. I've been thinking about picking up a walking stick or cane for a bit now, and I think I found the one for me. Thanks very much for the post. :)
