This is my charter arms bulldog I just got. It's a Stratford made one made in 1988. I believe it's one of the last first generation one. Although I may be wrong on that. I have to say I love this gun and it's got a really nice fit/finish to it.

I just added the pachmayr compac grips to her yesterday. For me this gun is now perfect. The lock up and nice and tight and she shoots great. Trigger is more than smooth enough for this guns purpose. It also has a factory "pocket hammer" as I believe charter arms called it. It's bobbed but can be cocked for single action fire.

I've owned Colts, smith and wesson and rugers. I certainly can't where the charter arms is lacking other than in the refinment i.e. fit/finish area, but that being said this gun has a nice blued finish and is fit together very well.

I have 5 Charters, including a newly manufactured 44 Bulldog. The only downside I see to the 44 Bulldog is ammo cost, and availability. I also have the Pac Compact grip on mine, as I found shooting it with various different grips, the Pac had the least felt recoil.

My Bulldog shoots well, has a good DA trigger(I installed the DAO hammer for a snag free draw)and has been perfectly reliable.

If you are only carrying 5 shots, the HUGE bore of the Bulldog is certainly intimidating.

that's true... if its going to be only five, make'm .44 spl.

The .44 Charter has been my favorite carry revolver since 1987. I know that I never want to see what the other end looks like. The Marine who sold it to me joked that it was basically " a ticket across the street and then you better be getting out of Dodge......":scrutiny:
