He's from Ohio. Last I heard rest area carry is illegal there even with a permit.

I'm from Ohio and I haven't heard that! Not sure if that is true, I'll have to check the Ohio code...

Just checked... While it is legal to carry at the rest stop, it is still illegal to CCW in a state-owned building :banghead: so you legally can't CCW in the bathroom! Note: You can open-carry in a public building, but you may be arrested for inciting public panic :fire:

.

It seems the womens restrooms are generally cleaner.

A common misconception.:what:
:barf:

Edit: Am I the only one here who does not let local carry "laws"
determine if I carry or not ?

Ooops. have I just committed a faux pas ?

Yep, on THR we don't advocate illegal behavior or encourage other people to break the law.

Of course, it's easier to get out of jail than out of the morgue. Most sensible people know this.

But please don't advocate law-breaking here.

We have these big food court/gas stops along the interstate. They are brightly lit and usually very active and safe appearing.

A woman was traveling to Rhode Island and stopped at one to use the restroom. There was a state police car parked outside. I'm sure she didn't think anything was unsafe.

Unfortunately, some scumbag repeat offender was working in the Burger King and followed her into the bathroom and began stabbing her.

The ironic thing was the cop was on the can next door and heard the commotion but by the time he got in there the woman was dead and the scum was standing there going through her purse.

That's about as bad as it gets and demonstrates that you can't let your guard down anywhere. Although in this case, I doubt there would have been anything she could have done to prevent it.

Where was this, News?

...I advocate the stay close to each other approach, mens', womens', who cares...Just don't lose contact if you're not confident in your surroundings...

...personally, I love rest areas...Kentucky has some nice ones...If you're on the great lakes corridor, you'll see some nice ones as well...There are so many people traveling by auto since 9/11, that they fill up late in the afternoon and are usually stuffed on the major corridors before dark:30...
4-wheelers can usually find a spot, but rigs have a precarious logistical problem related to space and hrs driven...
