Just back from Big Bend NP in Texas. Signs in all visitor's stations claim ALL weapons prohibited from Nat. Parks. Posters threaten 10 years in jail for weapons posession "with intent to use in a crime." Texas certainly has CCW legislation and "concurrent jurisdiction." Is this just an issue of not changing their signage or an effort to intimidate CCW holders in National Parks? Or is the wordage on signs designed to make it unclear as to legality of CCW without recognizing openly, its legality?

The signs only apply to the buildings they are attached to. 18 USC 930, prohibition of firearms in Federal facilities applies inside the National Park just as much as outside the National Park. The signs are required to be posted at the entrances to buildings staffed by National Park Personnel/Rangers by 18 USC 930.

The sign should look something like this:

Immediately after the Park Ranger was shot on Mt Rainier last year the Park went into lock-down and anyone nearby was hustled into the lodge at Paradise, one of whom was carrying a concealed pistol. After a couple hours the police arrived and began to process the visitors. The guy with the gun let them know he was carrying with a CPL so there'd be no surprises. Guess what? No drama. They took his gun and later returned it to him.

Not entirely on topic, but it's always nice to hear stories of authorities using common sense, especially in such a volatile situation.
