Need inch lbs torque wrench for scope

Another vote for the “Fat Wrench”

I’m no gunsmith by any stretch, but has worked well for my needs…including mounting a few scopes and red dots.

I suggest an old beam-type inch-pound wrench off fleabay. Unless you mount scopes full time you're going to use this rarely, and a beam type is simple and reliable. Inexpensive click wrenches are too sensitive to quality for my taste.

In answer to the same question, I spent about $30 on a Sturtevant beam wrench. No plastic but the bakelite knob, and a beautiful example of post War domestic toolmaking.

Odd man out. Don't have the yellow Fat Wrench. I do use these options for different tasks for in-lb scaling. The Fix-It sticks with variable and fixed value torque-limited sockets are handy at times. Have used a legacy Craftsman digital wrench for muzzle devices (ft-lbs range) for a long time.

Well I never torque a scope in 47yrs till day before yesterday. I was shooting a new Vortex crossfire 4x12x44 on a new Weatherby Vanguard 2 -25.06. adjusted 12 clicks left and gun shot off the paper!! I damn near freaked out. I called Vortex tech. He told me my rear ring screws were too tight and causing "impingement". Tech told me to back off the rear screws till they were almost loose! supposed to be tightened to 15 inch lbs. I was still at the range so I did as he suggested. adjusted the scope back to the right and it hit on paper. readjusted and shot another group. I was worried that my scope was messed up, so I called Vortex and told them I wanted to get the scope checked out. They sent me a free mailing label and service request form immediately! I mailed the scope to them that day.

I am hopeful that if it is damaged, they will either repair or replace the scope. I have load development to do!!

Vortex has excellent customer service!!

Interesting.

Right off their website for the Pro Series. Torque varies a bit depending on the mount model, but all are generally in this neighborhood.

I’ve only used an in-lb wrench once, for balancing the screws on the gas block of a Mini-14.

Borrowed and returned.

I have a Fat wrench and Fix-it Sticks, I use the Fix-it Sticks the most of late. I keep a set in both of our vehicles, in my range bag, and one in my workbench. I have multiple of the specific torque limiters, as well as the variable torque indicator stick. I dated my indicators to be able to identify when they should be rechecked or replaced.
