I had been hemming and hawing, trying to find that special "50th birthday gun". Looking at Berrettas, Taurus', Springfields, etc.
Went back to my local gun shop, not the one that was such a jerk to me, but the nice people I've bought several guns from to see what they had again. They had a used Sig232 that they apparently had way too much money into and we could not come to an accord. So I went with my second choice: 1976 S&W 64-1 38spl Polished Stainless Steel, 4in bull barrel in like new condition. Pinned barrel, spring loaded pin on the hammer. Everything I like. It even had Pachmayr gripper professionals on it!
I got what I feel is a good deal, about $250 less than the market price of a new one which ain't half the gun if you ask me!
So there you have it.
Can't wait to shoot it next week!

Nice aquisition; the heavy barreled Model 64 makes for a great service gun or home defense piece. You did just fine with this one. And Happy Birthday.

Congrats and happy birthday. There is no reason to think that this gun ought to be second choice to a P232. I have the P232, and frankly, i like S&W K-frames better anyway, and if they were equal money, I'd take the revolver.

Well done.

jkwas, THAT WAS ...

SWEET! Woulda been my only choice:)
I hope you enjoy your new toy another 50 years. Happy 50th birthday!

Sold my CZ 85 race gun last year and replaced it with two ex-police M-65s, one of which is in near mint shape. Still chuckling over that one.

The is a very nice M-64 in a pawn shop near where I work for $299. I have been fighting its call ever since I saw it. Gun money is at about zero right now. :(

I bet you will really like the pistol. I have a Model 10 HB (blue version of 64) and it is one of my two favorite .38's I've ever shot. :)
