My Winchester XPR .243 Win just got out of jail, and my local range is still closed. I have ammo made up, new glass on the way, ready to see what she'll do at 200 yds. Normally, I don't walk more than 100 yds, but for this rifle I made an exception. Waiting and waiting...sigh.

BOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Public land not an option?

I feel the pain, i got a few new toys i cant play with till I actually get them transfered...THO I can go pick up my permit tomorrow, so happy me.

Congratulations on the new rifle! SC had opened the public ranges a few weeks ago. I went the 2nd day they were opened. I was happy to see that they are doing a great job with the physical distancing. They have opened every-other shooting station and are disinfecting the benches between shooters.
I hope the states that haven't opened the ranges will do so soon, with taking sensible restrictions. 6-10 feet is not hard. Adding a mask (bandanna) is as easy as hearing protection and safety glasses.
Enjoy the new rifle and safe shooting!!!

Dead of winter during a snow storm is no different. Well, until next day when the roads are plowed, and the range also:cool:!
Rifle drill on the rug in the living room perhaps? Learn your trigger the cheap way with dummie rounds / snap caps.:)

My nephew has a friend who lets his kids come over to plink with rimfires, but the neighbors get unhappy (and you really don't want to pi$$ them off ). A centerfire with any kind of report would likely be most unwelcome. This might just be a waiting game.

I was at my range last week and saw a guy drive out to the 250 target to inspect his reults. First time I had ever seen that. He had no age or medical issues.

My local range is currently open with 100 yards being the max. When I need to go further than that I load up an ATV and head out to BLM land where there’s no max distance constraints.

Yeah, I was going to make a cheap trigger gauge from a water jug, if only to see if the factory setting of 3.5 lbs is just that; may bring it down to 3 for that first range day. I can make up some dummy rounds and use silicone for a primer. Anything to pass the days....

Same here. Really nice uncontrolled outdoor shooting area above Lyons CO on National Forest land..BUT imposed 'fire ban' because of manning during the COVID gig, and that includes shooting ban..expires this Sunday..we'll see if they re-instate it or not..hope they don't. I have a new rifle(Mossberg MVP), other son has a new Ruger PC-9, and other son a new Ruger Vaquero...none of which have been shot..here's hoping..

My biggest concern is that when our range does finally reopen, it'll be a zoo. We have one public range to serve an entire county, and all those shooters are chompin' at the bit to blast away. Patience is a virtue.....

I was concerned also! Luckily I am able to go during the week. Saturday would have been a nightmare. The RSO's are limiting shooters to a hour once all shooting stations are full.

Our range here is still closed until hopefully June 1st. Fortunately I live close to the Natl forest. Hope you find some relief.
