New Release Beretta 92Xi

My comment and I believe this thread, was in reference to the SAO action.
My point is this model, the 92XI is not geared toward the competition crowd, it is a general purpose gun, just like a 92FS, just in single action.

Unless they drop the 92X Performance line, there really isn't any reason to come up with a "more polished version for competition" of the 92XI, because they already have more polished versions of the 92 Series for competition.

I'm not sure I agree. With this being an SAO gun, I could see it being attractive to USPSA shooters. Short of the built in compensator and the beveled/flared mag well, this Beretta would be close to the STI 1911. Then again, as I type this, I realize the STI would still be more attractive for competition, especially if the trigger on this Beretta weren't equal to the STI.

There is room in the competition arena for SAO. Shooters pay thousands of dollars for some of those SAO toys - I did, albeit for plinking, not for competition.

The point is if you are a USPSA shooter, why would you choose the aluminum framed, fixed sight 92XI, when Beretta already makes the steel framed adjustable sight 92X Performance.

Sadly, those guns all have the straight-backed, 1911-inspired, grips. It seems as though Beretta has moved away fro there original, 92FS styled, grips in their newer guns.
All of these "X" guns come with wraparound grips that mimic the standard 92FS grip.

With the Vertec frame you can go bigger to replicate the 92FS grip, but you can't just change the grips on a 92FS and give the Vertec feel to those that prefer it.

I would not, but a more polished version - steel frame, etc. - may be.

You wouldn't.
SAO puts you into open class, you would go against open 2011s and that beretta would get flat out smoked.

The performance was designed for ispc, it's too heavy for some USPSA and idpa classes. That’s why beretta released other versions so they could make weight.
JJ shots the performance defense, no rail, optic ready and I believe a lighter slide.

Well. I finally saw one in the wild today. Young guy had one at the range to shoot the weekly USPSA league with it. I got to dry fire it several times. I was unimpressed with the trigger pull. It was not the clean crisp break I expected. Not even compared to the SA pull on M9. (Admittedly, mine has 3-4k rounds through it by now, so his XI may break in a little.) Also, as expected, I wasn't impressed with the grip. Fit and finish was excellent, also to be expected in a brand new Beretta. The grip safety was rather oversized, I thought, at least compared to that of a 1911.

Do you mean safety levers, or beaver tail?

They already have their competition versions...

92X Performance https://www.beretta.com/en-us/beretta-92x-performance/

92X Performance Defensive https://www.beretta.com/en-us/beretta-92x-performance-defensive/

Both have slide mounted thumb safeties, steel frames, and adjustable sights.
Since we're talking safeties, the above is an error on my part. It should read "frame mounted thumb safeties" not slide mounted. Those two models, like the 92XI have frame mounted safeties, which I knew, but typed slide mounted for some reason.

Well I'm a Beretta fan Boi of sorts. I have one lay away, the Launch Edition. Looking forward to shooting it, I know it won't be as good as my Performance model, but also it's $500 cheaper

It looks nice, but I have heard the same about the SA pull on all the gun forums, unfortunately....

Had a Landgon tuned 92X Performance come through recently and it was fantastic. About the only DA/SA pistol I've been interested in for a long time. I wanted to like the Xi, but I think a 226 SAO is the better gun, especially with the optic mount of the Sig vs. Beretta.
