So yesterday being V day :) I did some little things for the Misses that she really appreciated! In return I casually mentioned that Savage was/is having a rebate on certain rifles and Grabagun had the one I wanted for a good price so.................

She said go ahead and get it then!!!!!
Me:what::what::what::D:D:D

It's a Savage Model 10 fcp-sr 6.5 creedmoor 20 inch threaded Barrel I'm waiting for it to get here so I have a new target ish rifle to test out!

Scope recommendations? I will shoot this out to 300 yards that's my limit right now.

I have had 3 Creedmoors this last year and took several deer with them. One was 357 yards. We also took them to a friends farm and shot out to 500 yards. I was shooting a Bergara B-14 with 129 gr. Nosler Accubond LR's over H4350. With a Vortex Crossfire II 6X18 with Dead Hold it was dead on with each hash mark at 300, 400, and 500 yards. Worked swell. I also had a Ruger American Predator with a 4X12 Vortex Diamondback. It took 2 deer between 260 and 275 yards. Your Savage should be a lot of fun.

Very nice! I really enjoy my 6.5CM howa. Ive shot hornadys 123amax over superform and h4350 to good results and the 143 eldx over superform...gonna try other powders on thqt one shortly.

Given the style of rifle I'm guessing you want to use it for practical shooting/target, not hunting...right? That being the case I would recommend something like a Vortex Viper PST, Burris XTR, or the like in a 3-15x or 4-16x variable power with a decent objective like a 50mm. If it fits your budget be sure to get a FFP (1st focal plane) scope because that will allow you to accurately utilize the graduations on the reticle at any magnification. If it's a multipurpose rifle the Viper HS-T might be a good compromise (you can cap the turrets) at much lower cost (I bought my 4-16x for about $350 whereas the FFP scopes generally cost $1k or more).

You sure your friend from the other post isn't you? ;)

As for a scope, there is section below this one just for scopes, but for 300 yds I wouldn't go less than 12x and for a bag recommendation for your other new post, a lot of people like those caldwell sleds. I personally just use the range bags provided (like 4 cause they're thin and crappy) with one of those protektor #7's for the rear..works for me. However, regardless of what gear you use, make sure your table is steady otherwise nothing will matter.

Congrats! Sounds like fun, what's your price limit for the scope? If you intend on getting into turning turrets, I think a SWFA fixed 10x or 12x is hard to beat for slapping steel in the $300 range. I use an SWFA 12x on my Tikka CTR, and a 3-15x on my 6.5 RPR, both are very repeatable.

I have been wanting to try the ELDX but I will have to order them. We have one store that stocks decent reloading supplies and the bullet selection sucks stump water.

Yeah i saw the eldxs on the shelf here and grabed a box, 10 bucks over what they cost online but they were on hand. I only shot 10 last weekend 1 5shot group without magnetospeed attached one with for velocity.
First group was right aroumd an inch second, was 1.5ish but velocity was only 2530. (This has been my experience with suprform book maxs is always 150 or below expected speed for a couple cartridges now)

I didnt bother shooting the rest, ill do a ladder up from there as i could see no signs of pressure.

Also wanna try rl17 and h4350 id like to hit 2700ish from my 22" barrel but that may well be a pipe dream.

Congrats on the rifle! I have an RPR in 6.5 and its awesome. For glass, if youre limited on cash, the SWFA 10x42 Mil/Mil is where its at for $300. Can't be beaten for under $700 imho. Don't try.

There's some solid options above that $700 mark, and of course they keep climbing. Im trying out a Vortex 3-18x50 Razor Gen 2 next week..if it gets to my mailbox on time. There are some good deals out there if you look, and the Razor line is well-loved for a reason.

Loonwulf - I think you should be able to get 2800ft/s or at least very close with max loads of RL17 and a 143gr ELDx out of your rifle. I would be surprised if you could not. 2530 makes me sad...what was your powder charge?

43 even. I usually work up in .5 gr increments and my first ladder went to 43 accuracy seemed the same from 41-43. Ill ladder up another 2gr with suprform and see where that gets me, but ill also grab some rl17.

Good stuff. With RL17, I was getting a pretty consistent 2875 ft/s with 42.5gr. CCI large rifle primer, Hornady brass, 143gr eldx, 24" 1:8 ruger precision. Deviation wasn't stellar, and the powder seemed to heat up during groups. I dont have my book with me, but I recall the superformance powder wasnt ideal for 140 class bullets. Anyway, I know this info has been beat to death on the web..so I'll be back to the OP now..

Hortman, please share your velocities when you get a chance! Im curious to see how that 20" barrel performs for you.

I'm looking forward to seeing how your Savage shoots, both factory and handloads. As for the scope, one of the new Vortex Viper PST Gen II FFP scopes would be a great choice.

You can see the velocities that I got just over a year ago with Reloder 17, GM210M primers, Hornady brass and Hornady 140gr A-MAX bullets. This was the initial load development for my 6.5 CM with a 24" barrel that shoots Hornady factory 140gr ammunition into sub 0.5 moa groups. I eventually settled on the 43.4gr load and gain another 50 fps or so with a suppressor attached.

Once I got the neck annealing process down I found that I can keep five shot groups in the .2 to .5 range with relative ease. As has been mentioned, the ES is just ok at 25 fps. I'd like to get that down to 10 fps but it might not be possible with Reloder 17.

I built a 6.5 CM on a Spikes Jack 308, everything else is JP Enterprise, Geiselle enhanced, Magpul PRS and grip; with a Leopold ELR ffp I've managed 10 and 20 round in 2.25" groups at 500 yards, so you could say that I've been very impressed. So much that I've been kicking around the idea of a 2nd barrel for my SiG SSG 3000 in 6.5 CM ...
