I just picked up a new M17 and I'm noticing a viscous looking white substance in the slide, almost Elmer's glue looking. Is this something along the lines of the anti-seize Glock puts in their slides or should I clean it out before I take it to the range?

You "may" have to take 10-thou off the front sight
to get POI to be POA+an inch or two.

If someone actually has a source for after-market Bomar-like
adjustable sights to fit the 320/M17/18 family, let me know...

Looks like TW25B, which is what was always recommended for use with SIG's in the past, and what I used on mine when I was using them.
That's what it looks like to me also. It is lithium grease and should be left in place when you shoot it.

It's to protect the rails, especially with a coated slide, when new. SIGs do like to run wet it you're going to practice much. You don't have to keep that much on it when you carry it, but make sure you use a grease and not an oil

I've tried dry lubes that are in all other instances the absolute Cat's Meow.
(Luv`em)

For those loooooong sliding surfaces, however, grease (even though wiped
on very thin) is the only thing that truly seems to work well.

Nothing like it on my newer SIGs (M18 and P365), but had it on a P238 I got 10 or 11 years ago.

I used to see that TW25B grease slathered on NIB SIG's many years ago, and back when I took my SIG armorer class (Classic) they said all their guns came with it applied. Maybe they're still doing it?

Anyway, I called the Mil-Comm folks to ask about getting some samples of their products for our agency range, and asked about it. They put someone on the phone who said he was a chemist, and one of the interesting things he said was that when you applied it to the guns, and rubbed it around the areas you wanted lubed, if you could still see the white color afterward, you'd applied too much. Always had good luck with it. They also sent us some samples of their oil.
