BONG!!! Brain-fart.. lol

...

IT's been well over "30 days" since I bought my last pistol, SOOOO maybe this means that my waiting period will be only 10 days from today after I/they submit my DOJ background check and it passes.. ;)

I hope this is the case/law.. as sooner would be better for this patient man.. lol

You know, I once had to wait a full 10 minutes for the NICS check to come back before I was able to take a handgun home. Boy, the wait was tough....

Can anyone tell me what mags these pistols use? I converted a 38 super to 9mm and I am looking into magazines. I currently use the Springfield ramped mags (made by Metalform?). Does the EMP use these mags?

Hi guys. I'm new to posting here. I just got my SA EMP 9mm today after many months of drooling and dreaming. It's sn is in the 4000 numbers. I am hoping that I won't encounter some of the 'problems' that I read on this post on the earlier issued guns.

By the way, hats off to all who have posted on this thread. It is great to have a source to review other persons opinions of such a major purchase.

Also, has anyone found a front sight that will fit this gun? I can tell already that I'm going to need something more substantial up front.

...

P,

First, welcome to the THR..

Congrats on the new EMP.. I'm sure with it being in the 4000's it is good to go.

I've seen a nice red fiber-optic front sight that one of our owner/members switched his out too, and he took a great pic of it..

Do a few more "Search" hunts, as there are only about 4 threads, IIRC, under Springfield EMP's, and I'm sure you'll find the pic and the member, and then you can PM him for any info on where he got it..

Enjoy her,

Ls

It is out in .40. Holds one less round.

Sorry, I just did a search on Gunbroker and all I came up with were 9mm EMP's. Care to point me to someone who has them for sale?

Nobody? Oh, I guess you have a different meaning of "out" than I do. I know there are plans in the works, but nothing is "out" in a .40 EMP yet. If I'm wrong then prove it by showing me one for sale.

Hmmmm

...

Looks "official" to me Brownie, an EMP in 40cal..

But, I'd say "hang-on tight" shooting a 40cal out of a 3" 1911..

Especially if the situation calls for a fast, one-handed shot, I'd say expect a feed jam after the first shot..

I could be all wrong about SA 40cal EMP, but I know how my 3" Colt Defender 45 shoots and the recoil IMHO is, would be, far less than that of a 40cal.. and a 3" 40cal would be less forgiving of either, an improper 2-hand grip, or worse, that of a poor one-hand grip/shot..

9mm or 45cal in 3" gets my vote, but I'd like to hear any owner reports of a EMP 40cal, both in recoil, and one-handed shots and feeding issues..

She shot perfect out of the box!

Went to shoot it today. Just cleaned her up and I just love this EMP 9mm. Wow! Sweet feel, very little jump, and very accurate. I put 12 full clips thru it without any jambs. I was using CCI blazer 115 JHP for the first 50, then my JHP reloads and I had NO ISSUES! This is a s/n in the high 4000 numbers. I can definately attest that this gun has no problems!

Thanks to all of ya on this thread. I got a real keeper here.

Gonna take her out again tomorrow and have some more fun.;)

Glad to see yours worked well for you. I picked mine up a few days ago after a 5 month wait (wanted it from my usual dealer). No chance to shoot it yet but I may have the time and weather tomorrow. I am hoping for no problems like I have read here and other forums, but right off I notice that the extractor is not flush with the rear of the slide, and the rear sights are cocked to the right quite a bit. If it had issues and I had to send it back to SA, then so be it, it wouldn't change my attraction to this little gun as of yet.

I have a fiber optic front sight on my EMP, and pics of the sight were posted on previous threads. But the sight is a custom job and not a replacement sight. The 'smith took my original front sight, drilled it out for the fiber tube and milled out the top of the sight to give access to light. All of that was done because the original nuclear sight was dim and no replacement sights were available at the time I bought my gun (very early production...s/n 4XX). I have no idea whether good after-market sights for the gun are now available.

Been drooling over this pistol for too long. Ordered from gunbroker.com yesterday. It should ship today. I have tried all of my local stores over the last week (since I finally convinced my wife that I NEEDED it), but none of the dealers can get this pistol right now. My favorite GS said they have had 3 on order for about a month. Didn't get the price I wanted, but I have to act quickly before the wife changes her mind.

I got my new EMP about a month ago. The first time out, I fired 100 rounds of 115gr. through it, It worked great with no problems and great accuracy. When I got home and broke it down for cleaning I noticed something looked strange. The ejector swiveled back and forth on the frame. At first I thought maybe it was the way it was made. On further inspection I found that the front pin/post that holds it in place was broken. The rear pin or post was the only thing holding it on, and it was loose which allowed it to swivel. I called Springfield and they said to send it in and they would take care of it. I sent it in and they repaired it at no cost. I checked it when I got it back and it looks like they put a heavier ejector on it. I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure it will be ok now. I'll find out this weekend. Springfield service was great! I really like this gun, so I hope this problem was just a fluke. I have a Galco ankle holster for the EMP. It works great. Make sure you get the optional calve support if you ever go with a ankle holster. The s/n is in the 4500 range by the way.

I think I promised to post a pic of how the gun shoots but never did. This was from a while back. The ammunition was Federal HST 124 grain. I have since drifted the rear sight to the right for center. The target was fired standing offhand at 50 feet (indoor range). Point of aim was the + (target center) with a six o'clock hold. 14 rounds with a called flyer (15th round high and off camera).

Three failure to feeds ... all were with brand new shooters (two), shooting for the first time. Over 2K rounds without a hitch for my wife and I.

Two best holsters .... Milt Sparks VM2 (IWB) and Milt Sparks Axiom (blet slide)

I didn't find this forum until after I had purchased my new EMP 9mm. Went to the range yesterday and WOW was I disappointed. I had every failure you could imagine. FTF, FTE, the magazine won't lock the slide back after the last round is fired, and trigger creep. I own several other automatic pistols and sure once in a great while a malfunction but nothing like this. S/N 3071. Oh ya...I took the gun apart and cleaned and oiled it before shooting and tried several types of ammo. Some were worse that others. Called Springfield and the sent me shipping label to return it, so at least I don't pay frieght. Problem is I really like the looks of the gun and when it did function it hit where I aimed it. Doesn't seem right that something brand new and expensive doesn't work, but maybe that is where corporate America is headed...Anyway am going to take it to my gunsmith today and then maybe return to Springfield

They will make good on the gun, that I know..

Still, not a good start with one's NIB gun and your pre-inspection, cleaning, and lubing it, prior to first shots, as they DO like to run WET, like any 1911.

Wow, this is the first all negative NIB post I have read, and I'm wondering IF, by chance, your EMP is one of the earlier ones, from # 2600 down, as I was told by SA that the earlier ones had feed issues. Another thing, which I feel may be a problem, as mine came with 3 mags, as should yours, and the mag springs IMO, are to soft, which I'm sure, one of my 3, has a feed problem and it surfaced last week using the same FMJ Winchester wb new ammo, and that was the first time, in 1400 rounds with FMJ that it failed to feed the last round..

Keep us posted, and chk your ID number..

The S/N on the gun is EMP 3071. I guess thats close enough to 2600. I sure hope I can get it to shoot because I like the look and feel of the gun...
