New York hunters

I wonder how the barrel is attached, maybe easy to make a 9mm. I believe 9mms work in the mags. I see the bolt is rimfire style using the bolt handle for the lugs.
Seems pretty normal, there have been a few people who converted them to 9mm.

The bolts actually a 2 lug, bottom lug on the rear of the bolt body, and the handle root. tho I dont know how much the root bears on the receiver.

Finally got out today to shoot some guns, tho not much of many shots. I just did some test shots no paper or even sighting in. Happy to say my bubba neck reaming job turned out great, fired cases are about .316-.317 which is about perfect for factory 7x57 ammo. Neck is only expanding 3-4 thou.

one weird thing is now it seems to show more pressure to the primer. I loaded up a few loads one of 48gr imr 4350 with a 150 bullet. And 40gr imr 3031 with the 150. No pressure signs on the brass but the wlr primers seem flatter then I would thought. I may have to switch to cci primes.

it was raining today so I only shot 5 rounds of the 6.5 prc today. They were a somewhat medium load of 53.0 h4831 all went fine, can just start to see extractor marks starting.

Hope to get some powder when the shop here opens,

I,ve been really busy here for a few weeks. I bought some guns I didn't have extra money for, but the prices were right. I commited on several other guns so my progressive press will have to wait a little.

I picked up a Remington 788 in 223. It has a old Weaver fixed power scope on it. We took it out shooting out shooting last Sunday evening and I hot it sighted in for me and rsn out of left windage.
I will be buying a new Leupold scope for it.

Then I got a hell of a deal on a Ruger Mini14 on Tuesday. $400 and I got all of his reloading equipment with the gun with three ammo case full of 223 reloads.
RCBS Rockchucker press, two RCBS powder throwers, a RCBS Little Dandy powder thrower with a bunch of drums,. Two RCBS case reimmers, five sets of dies, a few reloading manuals, a old round lee auto prime with a set of auto prime shell holders, three bricks of primers, eleven factory 223 boxes of ammo, there other stuff in there. Havent had time to go through it yet.
Then today a bought an old Pacific reloading kit from a guy on Craigs List, it has the screw in die press. And he also had a old lee turret press kit that I picked up.
Next week I will be picking up a Mossberg 12 gauge pump. The week after might pick.up a Remington 700 in 338Rum. I want the scope on it and if it works out I will get rid of the gun. After this delay I will get focused on the progressive route.

Then I need to get the airline ticket for deer season.

I need to get some flat rate boxes to send some stuff out.
I need more time, I will be getting a week off in three weeks or so.

Sounds like you bought some reloading equipment and they threw in a free gun. lol

Great deal!

The red squirrels were always a challenge with rimfire. They are antsy and are on the move all of the time.
Then again they prefer different habitat then the grays like so we never seen that many of them. There is a spot over in Coventry we deer hust at where we have to walk through a section of planted pine from the WW11era that is habitat to lots of red squirrels. Where I sit for deer is rigjt at the edge of the pines and an over grown pasture from decades ago.
There are some mature red oak trees there along with a lot of maple trees. At this spot I see both red squirrels and gray squirrels.

I picked up a 81 Honda 750 motorcycle yesterday as a parts bike that I might have sold. Any way they had a box of 45acp and an old RCBS JR2 press that they gave me.
The press sat in unsatisfactory conditions for years and the ram is rusted in the houseing solid.
I hit it with brake cleaner then poured used moyor oil on it. I need to work on freeing it up. This afternoon I will stop down to the hardware store and get some WD40 and PB Blaster or equivalent.

Try some atf mixed with mineral spirits

I'll give that a try here shortly. I have mineral spirits, i'll have to go pick up some ATF.
I have a guy comeing over at 1pm this afternoon to look at the bike. If it sells I will have the extra cash gor that 590 Mossberg shotgun.

Have you ever shot a 338RUM?.
I think I might keep it if I can shoot it decent.

Ya ove shot the 338rum there's some recoil in a sporting rifle, but when standing its mot bad. I'd like to pick up a 590 retrograde.

Try putting some heat on it with a torch. It shouldn't hurt the iron at all. Heat works wonders for loosening rusted, stuck bolts..... And soak in penetrating oil after heat up it will draw the lubricant in.

Taping with a hammer will draw in penetrating oil to. I think it looks worse then it is, but there could be pitting to deal with.

I'll mess with it later this afternoon.
I need to go yo the auto parts store and get some ATF and dig out my small torch.

One of the local guys that buys & sells reloading stuff has a Dillion 550B set up for 45acp that I will be picking here shortly.

Once I get a few more guns picked up and sold I will buy a Hornady progressive as well.
I will be setting these up side by side and I think I will set up that lee turret press too.

I have not made jerky in a few years mostly because I don't have the stuff here. Dad has what's needed. I do like grinding deer and adding beef fat makes nice burgers. We will make some nice morning sausage with pork fat. I think I like the ground meat the best. So many things can make with it.

Troy, have you ever made venison salami? Mmmmm, good.

5# ground deer, elk or nilgai
5 rounded tsp. Morton's Tenderquick salt
1 tsp. hickory smoked salt
2 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
2 1/2 tsp coarse black pepper
2 1/2 tsp garlic salt
2 1/2 tsp pepper corns

Mix well, cover and refrigerate. Mix well for three more days. The fourth day, mix and form into firm, compact rolls 2 1/2 to 3" diameter. Place on broiler pan and bake @ 150* for 8 hours, turning often. If meat is not extra lean, bake 10-12 hours to get grease out. When cool, wrap in Saran wrap or foil. Freezes well.........if it lasts that long.;)

(I like to smoke it over mesquite for added smoke taste rather than in oven)

My dad used to make it years ago, like almost 20 years. I like just about anything that can be made with meat. He used to make summer sausage to. Thanks for the recipe, I need to get a smoker for my house. Dad has a Oklahoma Joe's smoker/grill I really like, wish they would have a sale again.

There's so many things I'd smoke if I had one, I fish a lot to and have very nice eels only a few miles away in the Delaware river. Plus smoking salmon and trout are delicious, I'd even try the shad we catch. Smoked cheese is good to, well what can't be made better by smoking.

nice home made smoker to. I used to use a dehydrator a lot to,but need to get one for myself. I have limited room at my mom's house.
