Night sights: 3 Dots or just front sight?

Which do you prefer: 3 dot night sights or a single dot on the front sight?

One dot front, and one bar or two dots rear. If two dots rear, then different color is a must.

I've only used the traditionl 3-dot sights, but have noticed that if the dots are larger it helps with the alignment and front sight focus. There really shouldn't be any confusion between which dot goes where because if you were to line up the front sight to one side of the rear and make it look evenly spaced you'd feel and see that something isn't right. That said, whatever works for you for speed and accuracy is best. I can't speak about the other systems because I haven't tried them, but the Ashley Big Dot is one I'd like to give a go.

I think it's best to have a reference for both the front and the back whether it's three dots or like the Heinie single front and single back (straight eight).

my preference is the dot up front and a bar (mine is horizontal) set in the rear sight.

the single dot gives you muzzle awarness. the rear bar establishes the relationship between the front and rear sights

On anything but Glocks I like a black rear sight with a tritium front sight. On Glocks I like the factory rear with a tritium front.

Well, my USP-45 has a set of MMC sights with the tritium box in the rear and green dot in the front that works fairly well.

Most of my guns that are outfitted with night sights its three dots - green front and yellow rear, Trijicon.

On my carry gun, an S&W 340PD, I use an XS tritum bigdot up front. Nothing for the rear because that's what's available.

Great big dot in front, line in rear. Very fast. I shot in two IDPA night matches last year. Took first in one, second in the other. Ashleys are the best thing going for low light shooting. (plus a good Surefire and a good technique)

I've had Trijicon 3 dot night sights on my Kahr and I've installed a front only Mepro on both of my Glocks. I think that if in a low light situation, having a bright front sight is at least 95% of the battle. Having a rear glowing sight probably isn't going to help the average shooter that has diligantly practiced his or her draw... at least not inside 7 yards or so.

I like the idea of the large dot over a single horizontal bar rear but as I haven't actually shot that config at night, I'm not sure... But it sounds good.

On the Ashleys/XS, I haven't been able to see the big dot night sights in the dark yet... Are they significantly brighter than the standard Ashley or even a new Mepro? In my experience, the Mepros are the brightest I've used.

XS 24/7 Big Dot, period.

Just line up the front sight dot with the rear sight's single stripe and press the trigger.
