I have an RRA AR and a BHP pistol for home defense and they both reside on or near my night stand.
The other night I started thinking that if I had to move away from the doorway by my bedroom for whatever reason that I wouldn't be able to carry a whole lot of stuff in my cargo shorts (which is what I wear to bed). Whatever ammo, light or other tools that I picked up with the gun would be all that I'd really have no matter what. Usually I just grab the BHP, a few mags and a flashlight to check out the usual ('Honey, what was that?') bumps in the night, but say that I could tell for sure that someone was trying to break in or was attacking one of my family members outside and I had an opportunity and a reason to grab both firearms.
Anyway I started thinking about some kind of a night stand bag might be a good idea. That way the pistol would be secured (instead of trying to strap on a holster quickly or shoving it in my waistband) if I picked up the AR and that way I might have a few extra mags, an extra flashlight, a multi-tool, blowout kit and a few other odds and ends if I had to move away from where I keep most everything. It could also pull double duty as a self defense platform for trips away from home (in the car while traveling or while at the hotel) and in the event of civil unrest or a natural disaster.
I tried a search using the key words above, but nothing came up.
Perhaps I'm just using the wrong key words (night stand gun bag).
I've thought about using the 'Bailout Bag' that's available from County Comm, one of the 'Versipacks' from Maxpedition or even 'The Bug Out Bag' from Cheaper Than Dirt, but none of them really has any mag pouches and they'd just rattle around alot if you put them in the main pouch without a divider of some kind.
Any suggestions on what would be ideal?
