Range Bag Suggestions

I've had a few different range bags over the years but by far the best that I've used isnt even a range bag. Its a very heavy duty and very large wide mouth tool bag that I purchased about three years ago. It measures roughly 23" long x 12" wide X 15" tall, made by CLC Custom Leathercraft. Thick handles and a padded shoulder strap, its designed to hold over 100 lbs of tools, its made the perfect range bag for me. The center compartment holds over a dozen boxes of ammo lined on the floor of the bag and up to 6 full size handguns in their zippered soft cases, two pair of hearing protectors and a couple of odds and ends. Pockets on each end of the bag hold a couple of pair of shooting glasses (indoor & outdoor), gloves, bore lights and other accessories. Two outside zippered compartments with tool holders are used for targets and supplies and the other side holds a few gunsmithing tools and cleaning supplies, everything I need for an extended range trip.

Depends on the scenario for me. I have one of those Craftsman tool bags and it works very well and they are super inexpensive compared to some of the stuff out there.

I picked up one of these and absolutely love it for going to the range with only a few rifles and a pistol: http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Bags-Backpacks/Backpacks/RUSH-MOAB-10.html
Slings very comfortably over my back and has good thick padding on the strap.

I carried a craftsman bag for a few years and upgraded to the midwayusa large bag. WOW, what an awesome piece of equipment. I absolutely love it. Buy one and don't look back.

Midway's big bag is almost TOO big. I like that it holds a lot of stuff but you can easily overfill it.

They have their 'compact competition range bag' on sale right now.

I picked up a fishing tackle bag from WalMart for like $20. It has a top compartment for ammo, and three slots in the bottom for three smaller pistol cases, plus a few other compartments. Can't remember the brand name, though.

I have this cloth tool box of sorts made by Husky. I got it at Home Depot. It has wheels and a handle to pull it around. The pockets are GREAT for pistols. It also holds ammo and targets.

On another note, it is the greatest grip ever created for a conductor on the railroad. That is where the most rigorous testing has happened. I have rolled it across ballast, dropped it; it even took a tumble off the front of a locomotive. I obviously use two different bags, one for work and one for play:D. I may try and post a picture of it.

I have both the large and regular range bags by Midway USA and have had for a few years now. Got them one Christmas for two members of my family that didn't compare notes. At any rate I kept and use both bags and both are to me the perfect range bags for handguns which is about all I own with only two exceptions.

I have and love the Midway bag. Sometimes it is too big. However, I have a nice system that works great. BullDog makes nice range bags and pistol bags. Every pistol I own is in it's own Bulldog pistol bag. There is a lined pouch for the gun and it has 8 mag slots. It also has an outside pouch for whatever.

When it's range time, I grab my small range bag. It has pouches on either end that hold the ears in one side and has enough room for 4x50 boxes of ammo. On the side of the bag is 2 smaller pouches. They hold shooting gloves, an Uplula and eyes. Inside is big enough to hold 2-3 of the smaller gun bags so the range bag has the accessories and I can grab 2 or 3 different gun bags with 8 mags already loaded. They slide into the range bag and off you go. It takes less than a minute to get it ready to go. It works for me.

I have the small Midway bag too.

Sometimes I make a quick trip to the range and only take my Kahr P380. When I do, I use this.

I can fit the gun in the mesh pocket, the extra mag in the zippered pocket, and a box of ammo or two and ear plugs in the main pocket. It has a magnetic closure on the main pocket instead of a zipper so it snaps shut tightly. It's such a small case that most other guns won't fit in it. I can't put my Walther P22 in it.

My Waller Range Bag has served me well for twenty plus years and should serve me and those that follow me for many more years. Yes, Wallers are not inexpensive but worth the money, IMO.

Good luck with you range bag hunt.

I've got too many small bags: eyes, ears, gloves, notebook, range laser in one, tools and stapler and zeroing laser in another, a 30 cal box of PAOTD (planned ammo of the day), a gore-tex pistol carrier with room for mags, and a gore-tex double rifle case with room for mags. It's ridiculous. I look like a kid from Brooklyn on and African safari. Just need shorts and tall black sox.
I'd like to get all but the double rifle case in to a back-pack, with more room for water and a bit of food. Maybe even a scabbard if I have to walk a while.
Any recommendations? I don't like carrying things in my hands and only recently broke down to take a rollie bag through an airport.

Must it be a bag? I have used a large plastic tool box for several years and it has worked out well for me.
