Non-"Assault Rifle"-looking pistol caliber carbines?

I still don't understand why Marlin and Ruger don't bring their carbines back. If they could keep the price AR competitive seems like they would sell a ton of them. I had a Camp Carbine in .45 acp back in the mid '90s and have always regretted selling it.
Because they will be a commercial failure and money loser. People weren't buying those models 20 years ago and even fewer people would be interested today now that AR style tactical rifles totally dominate.

Chiappa makes a 9mm M1 Carbine.
Yup. And I believe it takes Beretta 92 mags, which is pretty handy, although it looks a little weird coming out of that familiar carbine profile.

I contacted the Ruger CEO about a PCC.

Here's the email I received back.

Thank you for your support of Ruger products and for taking the time to email the CEO. Chris occasionally asks me to answer some of the questions that he has reviewed. At this time we are diligently looking into the pistol caliber carbine market. Please keep an eye on Ruger.com over the next few months for new products that will hopefully meet your needs. Good luck and safe shooting.

I used to be a Ruger un-fan (until I bought an LC9s Pro). But they really seem to have their finger on the pulse of the American gun owner/buyer these days. Interested to see what they come up with!

Looking forward to the new Ruger 9mm carbine.

I just hope (pray) it's not another AR clone, we do NOT need more of those in 9mm. Like the OP, I want something traditional looking and set up for a pistol cartridge, not a nerfed out mini M16 with pistol magazines shoehorned into the mag well and with RAILS RAILS RAILS everywhere.

Sadly in today's tactical tactimarket, I fear that's just what it will be.

I emphasize that I know nothing about them, but I've seen a citadel m1a in 9mm.....is that close to what we're looking for? If not, default to a leverfun!

I still don't understand why Marlin and Ruger don't bring their carbines back.

They have tried and tried and tried. The 357&44 Ruger 77's, the 44 carbine for two decades, a decade of trying to sell the PC9 carbines in 9mm&40. If they flew off the shelves they wouldn't quit making them. I bet if you placed and order for 20,000 or so units and put half down you could get them to start production again though.

Now that they are in the AR market I wouldn't be surprised to see them offer a 9mm one.

My friend has found a couple of Ruger .44 Deerfield carbines. Took a huge buck a couple years back with one. Pretty accurate. Almost zero recoil. If you could find one they're nice.

:D There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth.

Agree it's unlikely that Ruger will build a PCC that accepts Glock magazines, but one can hope (dream). There sure are a lot of Glock owners, though, and the magazines are plentiful.

The OP wants a semi auto centerfire pistol caliber carbine that looks like a traditional hunting rifle. Not military or tacticool.
Sounds like OP wants a Ruger Model 44 Deerstalker or Ruger Model 10/22 scaled to the 9mm/.40S&W/.45ACP style cartridges.
I would not mind to have one in 7.62x25mm myself.

My only SA PPC is a AutoOrdnance Thompson Semiautomatic Carbine Caliber .45M1 which is fun to shoot but too heavy for woodswalking.

You're right, it'll be another tacticool black carbine. The market for wood stocked "traditional" looking firearms is pretty small. The only reason I see any pistol caliber guns for sale around here is because we've been recently allowed to hunt deer with some handgun cartridges. But the 9mm isn't on that list so lever actions and bolt actions are all that really sell. If I could find a Marlin Camp Carbine, I'd probably only buy one in .45 because I could still hunt deer with it. The 9mm, while I'm sure it'd be fun, has little practical use for me.

there's always the M1 Carbine- available in 9mm, as well as .30 carbine (which, IMO, is a bit much to call a pistol caliber, though there are pistols that chamber it). I've a notion that someone, once upon a time, offered it in .45acp as well.

We had a whole thread on 9mm carbines and I never saw that option mentioned. Are they reliable and reasonably priced?
