Does anyone have a Chiappa M1 9mm? how is it? I've never heard of Chiappa, do they make good products? That sure looks like a neat rifle!!

They don't make it anymore and they seem to have a spotty reputation, otherwise I'd buy the new one that been on clearance sale for months.

Ive been say for a long time that it's really slim pickings for current model traditional stocked semi auto rifles. I'm not a fan of pistol gripped rifles.... for me.

I contacted the Ruger CEO about a PCC.

Here's the email I received back.

Thank you for your support of Ruger products and for taking the time to email the CEO. Chris occasionally asks me to answer some of the questions that he has reviewed. At this time we are diligently looking into the pistol caliber carbine market. Please keep an eye on Ruger.com over the next few months for new products that will hopefully meet your needs. Good luck and safe shooting.

That sounds interesting. I'd venture a guess that it is one of two things, either an AR-9 (a version of their budget oriented AR-556 in 9mm) or something along the lines of an American adapted to .357 and .44 to replace the 77 series. For me the first option is more likely, and the second more interesting. If they made a "Ranch" version in .44 twisted sufficiently fast and threaded from the factory for a can, I'd be all in.

I'd love to see something resembling a lightweight 10/22 in 9mm that took SR9 mags, but I don't think the PC9 sold very well the first time around, so a reintroduction of something similar would be surprising. The few states with weird laws requiring straight wall cases for hunting create a real, if somewhat small market for chamberings like the .357 and .44, but a 9mm carbine is squarely in the range toy realm for most folks.

I'm feverishly hoping for exactly this! if they can deliver it without mucking it up with extra safeties and extra "features" for around the $5-$600 i wont even hesitate to buy one...maybe even two.

I had asked specifically about non-AR, magazine fed rifles. I'm really hoping it's a over-grown 10/22 that uses Ruger American Mags.

While the PC9 and PC40 didn't sell well at the time the secondary market has gone nuts. Times are different now. A more conventional rifle would be acceptable in some places where a normal AR isn't.

Ah, well that makes their response even more interesting. Lightweight, threaded and preferably with a side folding stock for the win.

I agree.

I've been emailing ruger for a long time about the PC9/40. Pointed put to them supply and demand and that they are listed and sold on GB for over $700 and up.

Bring back the PC 9 and sell it for less than a mini 14 and it will sell pretty well, imo.

I've had one for about 4 yrs now and it gets a lot of use here. They're still available at Bud's for about 480. almost 100 more than I paid. (2013 I think)

They're really a stand-off replica of the M-1 carbine but they look pretty neat.

Some plastic parts and they would never make it through WWII but really fun to shoot.

I'm sure it's gone past 2000 rds by now and everybody likes to shoot it. Never shot it past 50 yds, it's just for plinking.

It has stovepiped twice now but we clean it up and keep on shooting. It shoots really dirty and should probably be cleaned more often than we do.

It's not a S&W or a Ruger or a Colt but it is a fun and dependable gun so far.

Don't know anything about their customer service yet.

Chiappa M1 carbine 9mm still available at Bud's Gun Shop

That's encouraging.

I've searched pretty well and all I've seen is about 1 or 2 people say it's ok and about a dozen that say it's not. Very few reviews and feed back in general from owners.

If I felt more confident or if it was cheaper to take a risk on, I'd buy it.

Chiappa m1 does have not the best rep. I would say do some research and make your choice going in with eyes wide open.

I would love a camp carbine...last one I came across they wanted $900 for the thing....ahhh...NOPE.

As far as the "assault gun" thing....if you are looking at this to stay legal remember my 1966 Marlin Model 60 is an assault rifle in some states....stupid states, but still.

I hope someone other than Ruger comes out with something....I think there is a hole in the market for this at the moment....give us something that does not cost an arm and a leg and people will buy it...I know I would.

That's great news! And I know they'll make a good one. I guess the big question now is whether it will use SR or RAP magazines. Unless they do something boneheaded like Taurus did with its CT9 and give it its own proprietary magazine.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine was $365 when I bought it new. That was before the Internet made price searching easy and there was a sole proprietor gun store just a few miles from my house.

I think the market for a PC9 would be cheap ammo (plinking) and home defense. Some people are just turned off by black rifles because the media has demonized them for decades. I don't own an AR, mostly because I don't like the looks. I started shooting rifles in the 60's so my preferences were well established before AR's ever became affordable. I do however like auto loaders and carbines. I have several and would buy a (non AR) 9mm carbine if a company like Ruger or S&W built one.

I like ARs but like you said some times how we are perceived is by looks. Traditional rifles don't look as scary to law enforcement or the kind of folks who may call the law. I was reported for having a machine gun. My neighbor saw me carrying my ar to the car. Not playing she was a California transplant. I was just trying to go to the hunting camp to get practice in. It was a wild headache for absolutely nothing.

My neighbor saw me carrying my ar to the car.

I carry what appear to be guitar cases to my car. Being seen carrying a gun is out of the question. My home is within 450 ft of the local elementary school. When the newspaper announced the passage of the 1990 Gun Free School Zone Act it read like I was an automatic felon for being in possession of firearms with 1000 feet of a school. But there were loopholes. I could keep my guns in my residence. I could take my guns from my home to my car in the driveway unloaded in locked cases to drive to a shooting range, gunsmith, gunshow, etc.

I hated bringing range gear to and from the car when I lived in an apartment. I had a random neighbor (a stranger) ask me if I was going/went fishing, since my box of cleaning gear was originally made to be a tackle box. Luckily I was able to smile and nod my way out of that without further questioning regarding the long soft-sided rifle cases I was also carrying... :uhoh: It is such a nice thing to not have to deal with that now, living in a house with an attached garage- I can load up before I even open the garage door

With the number of states opening up to pistol caliber rifles for deer hunting I think we are about to see a lot more affordable option come to the table. The gun makers would be stupid for not doing so. I would really love an economical and accurate 357 mag or 44mag lever or bolt gun. A ruger american would be perfect.

I'd like a return of Ruger's .44 mag semi auto carbine with a few changes.

1. Also chamber it in .357 Mag
2. a little more magazine capacity for a little more fun at the range (6-8 rounds total capacity would be cool without having an excess of protrusion).
3. A buttstock with a decent recoil pad.

You always have the option of a Mauser conversion kit: http://www.troupsystems.com/mauser45kits.htm
I plan to do one someday...

Get one. Fun range toy. Nothing I would use for SD of course.

Scary. That's what happens when the feds start legislating more gun control. Nobody ever needs that.
