I am considering purchasing a Norinco AK47 (Type 56). It comes in a fixed and under folding stock versions. Which would you recommend and why?

Thanks

I have a side-folder myself, but I really like the ease of storage/transport.

I have a folder, and would like to have an underfolding stock instead. That being said, I really like the plain jane fixed stock a lot. Not as much cool factor, but I like the looks of them better.

The AK underfolders are way cool and when folded are easier to use in a vehicle or confined space as well as easier to store. The fixed stock is a much better firing platform. The underfolders are hard to get a good cheek weld with and tend to loosen with use.

Standard THR reply: Get both!

I forgot to mention the fixed stock version is $100 cheaper than the under folding stock model.

I like the fairly new Tapco T6 M-4 style collapsing stock for the AK...adjustable for the thickness of clothing you are wearing...also, its a lot easier on the shoulder when equipped with a CAR-15 rubber buttstock bumper...so I would get the cheaper one, and "redo" it. I found one for about $50, the buttstock bumper was another $5. Good cheekweld, and recoil is spread over a larger "shoulder" area.
